So I'm trying to scan my 2000 Caddy Pickup to check on a glow plug issue.
The interface connector will flash when connected to the OBD plug but then no communication with any modules.
I'm wondering is the vehicle too old or is the OBD system incompatible with my VCDS?
The VIN is WV1ZZZ9UZYT003150.

Hello

Does the LED flash red all the time?

Please go to VCDS, Options, Test and post the screenshot of the test result screen

(If the result of the test is K1 stuck high/low and you have an aftermarket radio, pull the radio and disconnect it and try again)

Best regards
Derek

Hi Derek,

Thanks for the quick response.
The LED flashes red on first connection, then yellow and then green when I connect the laptop.
The first photo here is just with the ignition off, I didn't think to switch it on, sorry.
The radio is aftermarket so I removed it & started the vehicle which gave me better voltage.
But, other than the voltage, both tests look the same?

A 2000? No it should work.

What are the exact results you get when you do [Options] -> [Test] in VCDS with everything plugged in?

Thank you, that's ideal. I was hoping to see a stuck K line on the vehcile, but I'm sure the guys from Ross-Tech will be able to point you in the right direction

Best regards

Ignition must be on to do an Auto-Scan, and since a 2000 Caddy won't have a CAN Gateway you must manually select the chassis type from the pulldown list.

Cheers Dave,
That sorted it ok. I hadn't previously needed to use the dropdown list.
I see it worked for me for Auto Scan and returned the result below
Am I right in thinking it was only able to detect addresses 1,3,15,25 & 41, showing results for just 25 & 41?
And is there a way to access the individual modules?

Those aren't "detected", those are modules that might have been installed in the vehicle you chose from the drop-down list.

I have no way to know which ones are actually installed that vehicle. Does it have ABS? Does it have airbags? Any warning light on?

is there a way to access the individual modules?
Sure:

[Select]
[whatever module]

Yes, I believe it has ABS and airbags but there are no MIL's.
Sure:

[Select]
[whatever module
That's where I can't access the dropdown list. The list is only available when I select "Auto Scan"?

There is no drop-down list for that.

After you click [Select] on the first screen, the next screen looks like this:

https://www.ross-tech.com/vcds/tour/screenshots/scm-installed.png[/code]

There you will have buttons for things like [01-Engine], [03-ABS], etc. In the case of your old (really, ancient) vehicle that doesn't have an Installation List that can be read, the buttons won't correspond to modules that are actually installed in the car, they will be modules/addresses that are commonly found in many cars.

So therefore I can't access the modules individually on this vehicle? The only way to communicate with it is to choose the model via the dropdown list which is via Auto Scan. SELECT - MODULE is not an option.
Think I have it now?

Of course you can. Click [Select]. Then click on whatever module you wish to try to access individually!

[Select] is the top-left button on the very first screen of VCDS:

Of course! Finally I get it.
The reason I can't access certain individual modules is simply because they're not there!!
What threw me was when I selected the first half dozen or so none of them would scan so I assumed the worst. Turns out the only accessible modules are the 25 & 41. 25 is fault free and 41 is showing the fault I suspected, so happy days.
It does however lead me to conclude that the only difficulty with the vehicle is with an electronic module (one of only two installed). It's therefore comforting to know that there are no other modules to cause annoyance!
Back in the day, we used to turn the ignition key a half turn to heat the engine before cranking. Then we decided that system needed improving.........😉
Many thanks for the learning and your patience. I just need some more practice with my VCDS on proper cars.
Cheers.

We have a tractor that still works like that. :)

My MF 35X also but strangely any Fordson Major from 52 to 64 only ever needed a nod from the driver, hot or cold.
What price progress, eh?
