Hi there guys!

I've been trying to solve a parking brake error, and keep getting different types of errors.

What i've done:

Changed the brake pads/discs on the rear axel due to wear.
(The car had errors before i did this).

The motor on the right side did not respond when wanting to spool it out to change pads in VCDS.

Changed it for some shit at aliexpress (Did not work)
Changed it to some quality stuff from germany and now only get this error:

Install original motor or run parking brake motor on the bench. You can run them open and closed by providing 12vdc and ground and switch direction by changing polarity. Run it on the bench ands see what happens. I suspect you have a issue with wiring for that parking brake motor or issue with the module. Those are both common failure points.

Please use some method of limiting current when you do this.

I've now tested both the original and the Aliexpress with 12V power (They both run fine both ways), also checked all the wires for shorts or breaks.

All wires are ok from connector to the controller below the battery. (All 4). The fuses are also OK.

Could it be the controller itself?

Part number 4E0907801A / SW 4E0910801C

If i test another one, will i need to code it in?

I've tested som more, but when i pull the handbrake, there's no response from the Right side motor. The left moves fine.

As mentioned before, all wires are fine, and have solid connection to the controller under the battery

Yes - Have known the module to give that error - Possibly the Transistor / Mosfet in the H Bridge has popped.

Correct way to Diagnose this is is monitor Voltage and Current Use of the module - Then look at Voltage and Current drawn by the Motor !!

Yes but I reckon you can just copy the coding from the faulty one

You would need to calculate a login before you can code a sh unit though

I would test connection while moving/twisting the wires for the affected motor. I can almost garantee that the issue is with the wiring at the motor connector or just past it, they flex and often break or have a poor connection. This is common issue on D3 a8's and C6 A6 vehicles. This error usually occurs while the parking brake motor is running a check or basic settings to check the thickness of the rear brake pads or setting the parking brake. When a connection is lost to one of the parking brake motors as it's being run/moved this results in this very issue.

Note on D3 a8's parking brake runs such a check in its own I forget how often but they have time limit or mileage limits where it's checked ever so often. It is also possible that the module failed, however in my experience module failure is more rare.

If I recall, the D3 checks after a drive when you leave the EPC off and lock the car.

I've now testet all the wires, and power connections. All seems good.

So I've ordered a new (used) module with the same part number.

How do I code this in? Any guides or equal?

Or can i just use the values from the "coding" screen on the old one?

The only one that has a functional effect is:
Software Coding: 0000331
WSC, Importer, and Equipment Number are just records of who was in there last.

However, there are also a couple of Adaptation Channels (001 and 003) that you'll want to set appropriately. Check these in your old module before pulling it. Maybe 006 as well.
