So, after a lot of work installing a factory Westfalia hitch and the factory wiring and trailer control module, I have one more issue to work out. Those interested in seeing my hitch installation can check this thread. Audi A8 L D4 hitch

Going with a 100% euro hitch, I have discovered that I need to install a set of canbus compatible trailer lights. I tried using an adapter (13-pin Deutsch to USA flat four) that I bought off of Amazon and it was a miserable failure. I’m sure that once these lights are installed, I will need to change some settings in the trailer controller to RoW instead of USA as it is currently configured.

Can I get one of my German brothers to tell me the proper coding for a German left hand drive vehicle? I sure appreciate the assistance that I’ve received so far from @Uwe and @Dana. I need to buy something else from Ross Tech to show my appreciation!

Here’s a picture of the lights that I plan to use.

I just wanted to post this video to celebrate my success! It took forever and a day to get these lights and I was finally able to test my Westfalia trailer control module and on my car. If you want to go through the trouble, it’s well worth the effort.

I got my lights mounted on my trailer today and took a short trip. I had to recode all associated modules to “German” instead of USA. Once I hooked up the trailer and plugged in the lights, the car “knows” it has a trailer attached. It disables “efficiency” mode, sets the air suspension for towing, and changes the graphic on the inside display to depict my car with a trailer attached. I get a separate indicator on my instrument cluster to indicate that lights are working on the trailer. It also disables the reverse parking sensors. It’s a beautiful setup. Thanks so much to everyone who helped.

I opted to leave the flat four wiring and existing lights on my trailer in case we want to pull it with another vehicle. The CANBUS compatible European lights are totally standalone and entirely independent of the American lights.

Got some scan from my collection. Not easy to find A8 4h with hitch here in germany ;-).
But Byte 00 should be region specific details in hitch coding
