2012 VW CC manual swap cruise control inop.

Apologies for posting in the new users thread, I currently don't have the ability to post in the retrofit forum and wanted to see if I could get some help with a vehicle I just purchased.

So long story short, I bought a 2012 CC last week from someone who did a manual swap on the vehicle. The vehicle runs so well that I almost couldn't believe it was a swap. The only giveaway is that the cruise control doesn't work for some reason. The confusing thing to me though is that when monitoring the cruise control switch in VCDS, all buttons are working correctly and the instrument cluster will even show that the cruise is turned on and set. Unfortunately, the vehicle won't maintain speed at all. When scanning the vehicle I found 03182 - Clutch Position Sensor (G476) 010 - Open or Short to Plus.

Now firmly under the impression that this is my issue, and after looking at the block info for the clutch switch on VCDS, I can confirm that there is no change when the clutch pedal is depressed. This has further confused me since the clutch switch seems to be working normally, as the car won't start without the clutch pedal depressed (or there is a redundancy that I'm unaware of). I've inspected the wiring for any problems and haven't noticed any issues visually.

At this point, I'm wondering if somehow the clutch wiring hasn't been done correctly, or if there is a coding issue that I'm not seeing. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

The problem with conversions, is that SOOO many people do a crappy job on them... I wonder if it's just had an incorrect clutch switch fitted to the auto starter interlock wiring, instead of being wired to the ECU and the appropriate coding and wiring changes made. It's not even hard, but people bypass stuff like this a lot, and do it half-assed.

At least it appears to have the correct ECU fitted and things seems coded correctly! So it can't be too badly done.

Regardless, I'd certainly be testing and inspecting the clutch switch wiring. I believe it should have a hall-type sensor? The ECU should be able to see when the clutch is down, but also when it is very slightly depressed - The Cruise Control will disengage the instant the pedal is moved, but it shouldn't start, unless right down.

Nothing from the auto wiring should have been bodged - it's pretty easy to disable it all and make the corrections for the manual trans.

So it seems - Just the CC not working and just a Clutch Switch issue !! I seriously am impressed - Whoever did that work will never be unemployed whilst I am alive

I just cannot fathom why one would invest so much talent and time into a task like this ??


If those hours and talent were converted to Dollars and Cents he could easily have bought a far better engineered and more reliable vehicle than a VW !!

This is where I left off yesterday. The clutch switch is a hall-type and is the correct part number. A visual check of all the wiring and all seems solid. It looks like it's been tapped into the ECU and all the wiring looks to be in the right spot based loosely on the small amount of info I've gathered over hours of searching the internet. The issue I'm having is without having the correct info for what wiring needs to be tapped into the system and in what circuits, I'm a bit at a standstill. I'm also curious as to how the clutch switch is very obviously working when I start the vehicle without there being any indication through VCDS that the clutch pedal is actually being depressed.

I've found a couple of videos explaining how the wiring should be tapped in on other VAG models so I reckon I'll start there. If anyone could help me out with a diagram more specific to my vehicle or something similar it would be greatly appreciated. At the very least a rundown of what readings I should have at the connector pins.

So just an update on this. I got an Erwin subscription and downloaded all the available manuals for my car. After checking over the wiring done by the previous owner, everything appears to be done correctly. The wire running from the clutch sensor to the EPB module does not appear to be shorted or damaged at any point. Unfortunately I still can't seem to figure out why the parking brake module is still complaining about the clutch sensor. The clutch and switch itself are the correct part number according to the VIN per VW. The module itself is correct, although it's an older part number. Looking at the data blocks for clutch position through the EPB module, it's stuck on 100% no matter what position the clutch is in. Again, this makes no sense to me since the clutch behaves completely normal when starting the car (only starts with clutch pedal to the floor). I replaced the clutch position sensor just to see if anything would change, but to no avail.

I'm currently just pissing in the wind with this, so figured I'd update the thread in hopes that someone will come along with some info that may help, and before I start firing the parts cannon.

Is G476 the clutch fully pressed or clutch just pressed sensor?

The fully pressed sensor is what's needed to start the engine, but the just pressed sensor is used for other conditions (such as cruise control).

Lucky for me, I like to do both of those things. Now that I've now spent countless hours poking and prodding around in this car in search of the all-elusive cruise control, I've hit the point of maybe giving up and have contemplated insurance fraud to get myself out from under my financial mistake (kidding).

I now have more questions than I did before I started this endeavor, and again am purely commenting in hopes that someone who is smarter than I am can point me in the right direction. I've quadruple checked that this is the correct diagram for the vehicle I have, 2.0L gasoline engine CBFA 7L3:

I know without a doubt that G476 is wired correctly into J623 and J540. I also know that I have (at the very least) tied into the correct circuit to pin 5 of G476. What I don't know is if this wire absolutely needs to be tied into B585, because I cant find an illustration anywhere in the document that shows exactly where this connection is. The same goes for the ground wire from pin 1 of the G476 and if it absolutely needs to be tied into 398, because again, there is no illustration as to where in the harness this connection is made unless I'm just not reading the diagram correctly. Currently the ground is bolted down to metal in the engine bay.

The other extremely puzzling thing I figured out today was the complete lack of what this said ground wire is supposed to be shared with. following the diagram down I can see that this is supposed to be connected with the oil level thermal sensor:

Problem is, The wiring for the G266 is completely gone. Not like it was removed, but like it never existed in this vehicle. The wiring doesn't exist in T6e or even T32c. I can see the sensor and plug sticking out of the bottom of the engine, with nothing plugged into it, and no fault code for anything even being wrong with it. So now I'm wondering how this is even possible if both the donor and recipient car build sheets are almost identical with the exception of the manual trans. That, on top of the fact that a diagram doesn't exist for this car without the thermal sensor (if I'm looking specifically at CBFA diagrams). Am I missing something here? I mean, apart from an entire circuit. Do I even need to worry about this? Could the ground point even really be an issue? I feel like it can't be this hard to wire in a correctly functioning clutch position sensor and I'm just completely overlooking something.

I'm open to any ideas, thanks in advance.

Hello again and please disregard the last incoherent post. I'm back again, again asking for your support.

I recently figured out why the EPB was complaining about the clutch position sensor. It was because the pin that was previously installed wasn't pushed in all the way. So after feeling like an idiot for a few minutes, I test drove the car and found out that the cruise control is still not working. The vehicle is not complaining about any issues with the cruise control. The EPC and brake lights are no longer illuminated. The cruise indicator shows up in the center screen, but the cruise control just flat out won't set. VCDS is showing the ECM as recognizing the cruise switch inputs, and still nothing happens.

I have checked every sing wire in the cruise system and everything is wired correctly. The instrument cluster, cruise switch, J519, and even the throttle body and throttle pedal seem to be correct parts when checking with VW parts. I have gone through all of the coding and checked everything I can think of to make sure correct coding, and everything seems to be done correctly.

I have to be missing something. Something just has to be coded wrong, or something is not activated the way it should be at this point. I've already read through everything I could find on these forums and in the coding help sections and I've not been able to fix the issue. So here I am, just one last time, posting a scan and asking for advice on what I can try to get this thing sorted. I'll try anything at this point, and if it doesn't work, at least I can say I tried. Any pointers are appreciated. Thanks!

Looks like SWCM is recognizing all of the cruise control inputs. Curious what station coding means though. Also looking through the scan again, I'm wondering why instruments' serial number is all 0's and whether this is normal

Yes as far as I can see, there is only one option that relates to my issue and that's the transmission and cruise control portion of the long code and it appears to be coded correctly. 6-speed manual and cruise control options checked.
