Shortly after having had a mobile tech fit a replacement clockspring after the MOT garage reported ABS 00778 '(G85) defect' on their snappy, the airbag light showed and the horn stopped working. Upon dismantling of the replacement clockspring I found that the ribbon wire was badly bent and broken in several places indicating that it had probably not been centred prior to fitting ?? dunno-can anyone elaborate?. Anyway, rather than shell out £220 + vat quoted for a replacement slip ring unit 1JO959654AG I had a rummage in the back of the garage and found the old slipring unit. I carefully prised the 4 clips open and lifted the ribbon cable out and fitted it onto the oblong shaped lower part containing the ABS/steering angle sensor. Although you are probably not supposed to mess about with the ribbon cable like this:rolleyes: it does seem to have worked in this case.
