Engine Oil pressure Run in adaptation for 3.0tdi CRTC

Hi,
I am new here but have visited the site many times for information and I now have a question in regards to the below post in raising oil pressure at idle on the 3.0tdi. Having trawled the web and YouTube more specifically there does seem to be abnormal wear at the top end of these 3rd Gen engines and a preventive measure is to increase the oil pressure to prolong engine life. I understand this shall increase fuel consumption but it's a trade off to save expensive unnecessary engine repair. I would have a dabble via VCDS but I am not at home currently and so not near my car for a few weeks this is just some ground work.
I have seen some online adverts on the mainland UK (I'm from Northern Ireland) to reprogramme the ECM but I'm not sure how valid they are or if anyone has successfully done this.

I would like to know if anyone has successfully adapted their settings via VCDS to increase the oil pressure as for run in on their 3.0tdi CRTC engine code specifically, or if they have used another method to conduct this? Maybe you know of someone in Northern Ireland who can conduct this via software?
I've already had the coolant valve replaced in the V at 28,000 miles (they are renowned for this) although the car was out of warranty and not an easy job either. I purchased it with 17,000 on it and it's a great car but as with everything mechanical they give problems but I would like to keep the car now on 56,000.

Not all 3.0TDI engines have the same ECU hardware and software, so there is no generic answer to your question.

There should be an adaptation "Engine run-in oil pressure" available, but whether the control module lets you change it or not, and whether it persists across key cycles is another question. I *think* if VAG-Technik need to reprogram those ECUs for this, it means normal diagnostics aren't up to the task.

Thanks for the reply. I have found the oil pressure adaptation and have set it to run in. You maybe right about it being permanent and I won't be able to check that for anther couple of weeks as I won't be with the vehicle again. I'll report back in a few weeks when I've had a chance to accumulate some mileage and scan again.

Run-in pressure is higher, to handle the added friction as per SSP.

Been lots of posts regarding audi lowering oil pressure on the 50tdi engine due too emissions which in turn has been causing cam wear and been told too get the oil pressure done via map, quoted £250 would void warranty so this would be an ideal solution and keep warranty in place? if the coding is accepted and as you said depending how long it would last ect key cycles affect!

On the Alltrack 1.8T (I know, it's a Volkswagen 1.8, not an Audi 3.0 diesel ;-) ) it works, but turns off after 1000km. If that Audi ECM works the same, you'd have to do it every 1000km, which would explain why a reflash is the only viable solution.
On my B8 S4 3.0"T", IIRC, it can't be changed.

I would be happy doing it every 1000km if it keeps the warranty in place these cars can be costly with all this new tech anything could go wrong and they look for any excuse!

so having a look at my admap and block map of 01 engine,I don't see the option for oil pressure run in?
Block map has IDE 00496-ENG188621,oil pressure switch valve activation bits 0-7,0,
and IDE11330 oil pressure control valve activation pulse duty factor 56.40%?

Yup, based on your autoscan that I had to go find here, your engine (EV_ECM30TDI0114K0907401K) doesn't have an adaptation channel for oil pressure.

Apologies for the late reply but just to update on putting the vehicle into run in mode via VCDS. I have done this several times now but it does not remain after a few hundred miles at the most. I set it via via the VCDS and drove for a few days 200 miles max and when I plugged it into the VCDS it had returned to it's previous setting (Not in adaption mode), done this twice and each time it returns to it's normal setting. So I am not actually sure if it actually lasts for a certain mileage or time frame!
Has anyone on the forum had any other results tackling this issue?

I'm also trying to solve this, albeit on a Mk7.5 Golf R. I can see the adaptation, setting it to active is "successful" but as soon as I read the channel again, it's back to not active. I have resorted to unplugging the oil control valve to force it into high pressure mode until the engine is broken in, but this isn't ideal.

I have also adjusted the ECU calibration to run in high pressure mode sooner, but really curious about doing it via coding instead.

Do you need security access code entered first to activate run in pressure? If so, what is the security access code to activate run in pressure? I have GTI MK7. Thanks.

Thanks for the reply. At least you have gotten set Run in oil pressure channel active "successful" even it was not actually active in the end. I got error message when I did on my MK7 GTI, see my post at the end of this thread:


I started to feel Run in oil pressure can only set active when the ECU data in flash memory are in original state, i.e., Run in oil pressure is active when the car is new, once first 1000 KM is passed, ECU firmware will set it inactive, its status can be read by tool, but NOT modified by tool; the only way to make Run in oil pressure active is to re-flash the ECU to the original new state. If dealer replaces engine with new or rebuilt one, dealer is likely to reflash ECU to match the replacing engine, that includes setting Run in oil pressure to be active for the first 1000KM.
