2018 R MIB2 into 2016 GTI Autobahn

The MIB2 in my 2016 GTI Autobahn has had some issues for a while (NAV not working, CarPlay taking a few minutes to load, the "APP" button not doing anything on my 8" screen retrofit, etc). I decided to replace it. I got a MIB2 out of a 2018 R and replaced my old unit. I have a buddy at our local dealer removing component protection this week so that part will be fixed. I have a few questions about some of the other settings (mainly 2). The unit is throwing a full because it's looking for the digital cockpit that was in the R. I can't find the setting to disable this. I'm likely blind. Also, the startup screen is set to "E-Golf" and the UI has blue accents. I don't see a GTI options with the Red like my old one. Am I blind here too?

I don't know if copying coding is frowned upon as much as not recommended. But that not recommended, especially in the retrofit section, is because newer modules by definition often have new features and the coding could be very different.

Coding hasn't changed very much. And in your case the unit that you installed could very well be the recommended replacement for the unit you're removing. So it's a retrofit technically because it's newer but it's practically the same thing.

I would copy over the coding and adaptations as suggested and then see where you're at. For more help from The forum, which many people will gladly provide, you'll probably want to go ahead and post everything you have from the old and new unit.

It will work just fine for MIB units. They are generally same coding. Even from MIB1 -> MIB2 the coding is almost the same. Only the car type on the first 4 bytes needs to be modified to match MIB2. Otherwise pretty much 1:1.

Adaptations you generally need to fix manually as they change from unit gen to another.

And the original post does not say if OP replaced the unit with same part number as old MIB2 unit. This is not retrofit as you see.

They’re close enough. So copy the old long coding to new unit. Adaptations you need to do one by one. Take adamap from old unit, then adamap from new unit. Compare with notepad++ or excel or similar and change the adaptations to match your old unit.
Job done, errors gone😉

So funny thing happened. When applying the long code for the old unit to the new and doing a soft boot, the unit froze on the Fender splash screen. I tracked down the issue to bite 17. The new one WAS set to 05 (e-golf) and the old 02 (Hybrid). Setting the new one to ANYTHING other than 05 causes the hang on boot. 05 will boot fine, but still loads the "R" splash screen before the "Fender" screen. Also, obviously all the accents are blue.

I was able to clear up some of the faults by changing some adaptions. I'm going to wait until after my appointment today to have CP removed to mess with anything else as I'm not sure what is a result of CP being active or an actual issue.

CP Is not going to mess with any of your adaptations. Those need to be matched, separately from CP.

New is EV_MUStd4CDELP -- I assume that's Delphi
Old is EV_MUStd4CTSAT -- I'm not sure who that is, but they're different vendors.

I'd be careful. I'd probably make an Adaptation Channel Map from each of them and compare them rather than copying willy-nilly.

And yes, to OP, the skin needs to be adapted correctly. Let it be at 05 for now. I'll try to find from my memory slots the link to a page where it explains different byte values on the MIB
