Yep. I bought a dud. DVD has been in the car for over an hour. I can hear drive turning but read/write only heard initially. If I eject I only get a message saying ejecting navigation cd. It at least it knows it is a nav cd. Looks like another bad investment.

SD-HDD copy still needs a bit of laser. It copies pretty much everything, but in the end needs the tiny ammount info from DVD.

Yes if the drive is totally dead then no dice, but if its flaky, might be enough to get it over the line...

The firmware that accompanies that tool was not deemed valid by my US RNS running 1140. Also the tool in its current version 2.0.4 is not compatible with 8246, so I was trying with 8213, but it never got to the point of starting the SD-copy anyway. In brighter news, Dana installed 8246 on her (much newer) unit today so we're 2 for 2 at Ross-Tech :)

Thanks guys.

I also have 1140, so I guess it isn't worth me trying?? What do you think?

On a good news front, my unit does play DVD films and can even detect a non USA region, so the laser must be working ok?

Strange. I did as Sebastian suggested and left the DVD in the unit. It was in for over 5 hours making the occasional whir sound. I checked in setup and now my map version is 8246. No message to say completed and new roads in my neighborhood are showing.

As I have 8246, does this now mean I am now updated? I didn't receive a single message.

NAR maps are slightly different than Europe. Europe is split into East/West and it will actually ask you if you want to use the newly inserted disc for navigation and/or copy/install the new data.

You won't get a message for completion. The only thing you can get is a "are you sure you want to eject?" (with a status bar) while it's copying.

I have the same as you Dana. But definitely no completion message and no save or eject.

Yeah I had to ask Eric because I failed to look at the level prior to the update and never got a message :) I took the pic after the fact though - so I'll know where I came from next time.
