Sometime in late in 1998 or early 1999, I talked to him about making a German translation because I thought there would be a good market for it in Germany
In Aug.1998, John wrote Bosch (German VWTool distributor) wanted to have files for translation, which he did not want to send.
And Baum Tools was interviewing a German mechanic for translation..

Not long after that conversation, he went "radio silent"...
Yes the last e-mail I sadly received was end April 1999, where he was back after some time in Hospital.

I was under the impression that he only had one person helping him
That was what he wrote in Feb.1998.

Also Baum Tools in the USA.
Yes outside USA.

I was in 'Merica at Rapid Parts Monsey NY a few days before 9/11 and whilst there I had a fiddle with VW Tool on the companies owner, Peter Bohrmann, lap top and it was OK but not as good as the OMITEC I had at the time. A few years later I was at the Essen tuning show and I found Ralf Milewski from MFT Berlin selling VDCS V2 and bought my first cable from him.

Hmm, I wonder if it is the same OMITEC? Don’t laugh (Uwe, Eric, Bruce) but I built my first interface on Breadboard. The car side ‘connector’ was solid strand telecoms jumper wire that I pushed into the diagnostic socket. :o

I fired up Vag-Com Alpha 0.70 and to my amazement - at Vag-Com and my ridiculous interface effort - it connected to the ECU first time. I then designed Rev. B that I built on copper strip board and was looking for a new enclosure and OBD plug. A company called OMITEC were willing to sell me just one unit and it was the perfect size to squeeze my strip board into:

You became an honest seaman quickly though, having bought a license in March of 2001.

I've seen more than a handful of folks registering on the forum here who have both a cloned interface and a more recently used legit interface.

I would like to say that I was an early-ish adopter circa 2001-2 I think it was when I bought one of these old ISOCOM adapters - collecting dust in a drawer obviously - if I could find the cables for it I would dare say that it still works.

My name is still on a certain old engine label file from "back in the day". I did stray onto the plank of shame with an unofficial USB adapter which I bought out of ignorance and haste for a while, but I soon learned the error of my ways and climbed back aboard the good ship Ross-Tech a few years ago and never looked back.

Hah! Records merged. You just got a much lower customer number in your profile.
