Or oil inside the throttle body unit itself. I remember seeing something like that. Generally P1388 is associated with a failing TB. I would perform a close inspection.
The EGR flapper or anti-shudder valve was inspected (pictures above) and replaced with a brand new OEM unit.
Of course, there is the throttle pedal itself. Inspected visually reseated the connector and watched its operation with VCDS (throttle position, I forget the measuring block). Even during the error, the throttle position with VCDS shows it "flowing" smoothly through-out the range of operation.
Other information that may or may not be related.
New tires installed about 2k miles ago. New battery was installed in August of last year (car was slow to start, and at times the electric assist steering would error during the start) Coolant sensor (located driver side of engine) was replaced. Coolant sensor threw an error (implausible reading).
