Hi
i have posted on support but some of you guys maybe able to help.
Bottom line is i'm trying to see by the Data if the cam timing is correct
vw polo 1.2 2016/17 with correlation fault p0016 , I am told the cambelt has been replaced when checking this fault,, and the Phaser, & the small gauze filter.
I myself have changed the oil and the oil filter and wired the solenoid that controls the cam timing and i can hear it click, i have not checked The cam and crank sensor or the wiring see logged data first, with this post it looks like the cam sensor is working and i have rpm so i think the crank sensor is working plus the engine runs.

My question to support is some of the Vcds Terminology can you explain it's description starting with the 1st logged data, i can see the camshaft adjustment bank 1 intake says specified & actual which is a fault as not getting specified Degrees & IDE00182 Camshaft adaptation intake bank 1: phase position -15.67 ° ( looks like it is retarded )
& IDE00406 Camshaft RPM 356.5 /min looks like the cam sensor is working. The 2nd log data

Please post a unedited and complete Auto-Scan. (no one knows what vehicle this is, what MY, what equipment, what configuration, what chassis, what engine.......).

Also, you can check the MVB's in Address 01 : engine ;try measuring blocks or advanced measuring blocks ; note if tab is greyed out.....(depending on your system, UDS or non-UDS.) If it is advanced measuring blocks, when the search window pops up on the U-Right enter "cams" or "timing" or any other phase related term. Then check the box(s) of any listing that may be related to what you would like to view ; the live data will be shown on the Left hand side display.

Note: Actual vs. Specified , they should be approximately within 3-6 degrees of one another , but not more than a 8 degree difference.

Also, from what I have observed and read here on the forum (etiquette) , if your "caps lock" key is "sticking", it needs to be corrected before you post. u-hmm. ;)

Also, from what I have observed and read here on the forum (etiquette) , if your "caps lock" key is "sticking", it needs to be corrected before you post. u-hmm. ;)

Hi if you look at the data i have posted you can see i have used advanced measuring blocks as greyed out for MVB which i prefer. i have tried to list camshaft information the problems as per the title is what is vcds saying for some of the measurement such as can you describe this
IDE04670 Crankshaft signal evaluation: status GAPFOUND
IDE04670-ENG127292 Crankshaft signal evaluation: status-Test_Program_Epm H Cr S st Sig Mode State t UBYTE 7
IDE06759 Cam shaft adaptation inlet: counter 3

The specified and actual is easy enough as you can compare,, here is another bit of data today after oil and filter change, and checked the N205 solenoid 2 pin connector,, to actuate by plus and battery neg clicking,, also checked the voltage from fuse SB18 & continuity and pin 2 resistance to T60/49 of ecu all good and continuity,, Checked the cam sensor G40 3 pin resistance , power supply, & connection pin 3 to ground, all good.

After clearing Dtc's and then engine running the new data attached here shows the cams specified and actual pretty close i could see it fluctuating back and for,,, but as per the data you can see about 3 minutes later the epc light comes on as the specified and actual dont match the actual is locked to 22 Deg and i have some new faults codes vag 2798 generic p2088 and 2799 p0010 & the incorrect correlation p0016.

I think your going to have to check the timing (valve/cam cover removal) ; see workshop manual for proper set up and locking tools. There is most likely a visual (quick reference) way to see if the timing is out ; ie how the cam lobes are positioned etc. Or if one of the cam adjusters is faulty.

YES i agree as ive checked again sensors cleaned the solenoid n205 wiring checks out, so really only ecu or valve timing supposed to be new phaser

No reply from ross tech employees regarding the data ive posted for terminology and what is vcds describing maybe it is due to the holidays.
IDE00182 Camshaft adaptation intake bank 1: phase position 0.00 ° I assume this is to do with the phaser on the inlet cam .
what is this IDE04670 Crankshaft signal evaluation: status GAPFOUND, i noticed on the advance measuring a lot of items there dont work they just spit out GAPFOUND so i assume not supported,, &
IDE01928 Close cam shaft angle at quantity control valve 48.3 ° is this to do with the solenoid N205
IDE01929 Open cam shaft angle at quantity control valve 63.6 °
also in basic setting for camshaft nothing works for test. vcds should publish a handbook on topics so less questions to be asked as the terminology is different to most scanners, i will group some questions and email ross tech. as no feed back on this subject.
Does VCDS have actuation for the vvt solenoid N205 so i can see if the phaser if phaser and solenoid is working any thin related the software fails the command and says error etc

It's not really a question whether VCDS has it, but more whether the ECU has it.

Have you looked at Output Tests in this ECU? There you should find one for:

IDE00227-ENG167462 -- Intake camshaft adjustment: bank 1

And as for Terminology, in newer ECUs that use the UDS protocol like this one, the terminology shown by is pretty much all straight from VW.

Hi Uwe
i have anything to do with the intake camshaft timing no function allowed,, the only view i can see is from advance measuring block.
on the scanner i can see the cam specified degrees for intake bank 1 and it works for a short time, if i recycle the ignition the same result.
i have rpm and idle so the crank position sensor must be working same for the cam sensor,, which has been checked on the harness for power etc.
But as the crank sensors is a pig to get to on your back, ive not checked it's harness. if not that i only have the camshaft timing to check although i'm
assured by the owner it has been checked twice and new phaser, if the Crank or Cam Tone/Reluctor Ring was at fault would it run at all, that leaves the ecu
The ecu has a what looks like a date i cant post the photo, it says 16-11-08 if this is the date, for a Bosch MED17.5.25 the car is 2017

The phase sensor on a this vw 1.2 polo can you give some description of what it is measuring and how to know what the displayed values describe
IDE00182 Camshaft adaptation intake bank 1: phase position 0.00 ° I saw a topic saying it can be used to test when to replace a cambelt or Chain
based on the degrees displayed, can this Information be used to test the cambelt timing to see if it is within tolerance and what values indicate problems other wise what is the point of having it on VCDS

Yeah, I'm the fool who started this company almost 24 years ago. VCDS is a scan tool. It shows you the data that the engineers at VW decided would be useful to be able to see with a scan tool. Sometimes they explain what that data means, other times they don't. But even if they have explained it at some point for this, that doesn't mean I've seen their explanation.

Pity they don't produce a handbook for what is measured,, some of the stuff is understandable,, and also helps if it it has a specified and actual
But some measurements don't list anything, so unless a common item , it is hard to value what is measured,
By the way to save opening another post,, Regarding air bag modules i have in the past used original coding for a dona ABS module but if no original coding is available, can a second hand dona ABS module be coded in.

It depends on what specific airbag system you're talking about. In cases where they are index coded, a used module with the correct index for the car will already have the correct coding.

Please note that Ross-Tech does not condone and will not provide support for installing used airbag components.

Hi Uwe.
I have a bench Test Harness for MQB platform vehicles, i have all my parts such as engine ecu's Bcm, instrument cluster, Gateway etc, now i need to get a ABS module as you know a lot of stuff is linked to the abs So you
can see why i ask can i code in a second hand unit if i buy one without any history of it apart from it is a MQB platform type,, do you have any suggestions apart from buying a New abs module.

The engine ecu, the instrument cluster and the j519 bcm & the gateway module are from the same vehicle .

MQB ABS modules are usually an MK100 variant. Can they be coded? Yes, but the coding isn't 100% understood. See:
