Hi There ,

I have noticed an issue with my 2017 TDI V6 Touareg at start-up, which has a very rough idle and started to shake.
I have only started noticing this at a cold start. I scanned the car without any indications or clues from the sensor readings. Could someone point me in the right direction regarding what I should look at?

Please advise .

Cheers
Al

AK77, diesels are testy when cold. Don't know how quick you fire it off, but do you wait about 3 seconds to see the glow light come on, then go off, or is it.

My wife and I have this discussion occasionally. jump in, shove the key in, then crank, all in one smooth motion.NOT!

We have no codes which is always nice, but while running rough is there any smoke from the stacks? Assume glo plugs get their Q from ambient temp, engine or other. Are these congruent with the day around you.

Modern diesels, not so much. Besides, just how cold can it possibly be Western Australia?

Could someone point me in the right direction regarding what I should look at?
Have you looked at your injector deviations?

The symptoms are the same regardless of whether you give glow plugs for 10 sec or longer. I will look at injectors next and replace air and fuel filters. Every day is different; today, the shake lasted longer.

Thanks, mate; I will look at the deviations now and report back. It's not very cold here, even during winter. I'm thinking along the way of fuel or injectors.

does anyone know where to find the Injector Minimum Deviation section? Not listed in my software dropdown option?

Advanced Measuring Values.

Type deviation into the search/filter box.

Should be the first six things you see.

Ok, I have done that part. I get the 6 readings.
I can see the numbers but where is the menu to run a minimum deviation ( basic settings or similar) like on the smaller 2L engines? Can it be done on 6cyl or just Soft Reset?

Please explain what you mean by "correct conditions".

Cylinder 1 is starting to look a bit borderline, but by factory standards, it's probably acceptable, so I'm doubtful that this is the source of of the issue.

Okay, will bring this up, and have posted it before, mostly no comments.

Had a 99 Jetta 2.0 gas, and would hard crank, run extremely rough then die, morning only. If you could keep it running would fix itself after about a minute, only when cold, maybe not do it again for days or weeks.

So looked at all codes, none, truly wanting to fault electrical, fuel anything, not about the price just fix it.

One morning for giggles, own a DSO, VAG, and others, so put a vacuum gauge on it, and during rough run read about 15 inches of vacuum, normal IMO 20 and up. Managed to get it to die but had been running for a minute or so long enough to start to warm. Crank it over, it lites off, runs smooth and magically now pulling a solid 20 inches, 30 seconds ago 15. I did suspect oil so changed again, no change.

We know they don't heal themselves but maybe there is a lifter holding a valve tight or slightly open. This was a rebuilt motor with a VW OEM oil pump. Took it off suspecting bypass valve and seen nothing alarming. Was already in there so replaced it, problem never came up again. Oil pressure number as I recall in suspected pump were almost at 100, don't recall, but IMO high. New pump stone cold maybe 80 (has been a while) but dropping after warm.

Don't know how you would validate this in the diesel, maybe MAP, MAF, but just a thought.

Correct conditions: as per Ross-Tech recommendations, temp, etc.. I was just thinking as per the below text some vacuum hose or something?

Just thinking about this and conclusion would be a sensor somewhere would pick up incorrect reading? Yes?

AK77, not familiar with each and every car, and the ability, but 99% sure oil pressure would be shown in the advanced section.

Thinking back probably not an option on my 99, but in this case would be good to look at. JmO.

Hi ak77, did you fix this?
I had exactly the same issue which eventually deteriorated into a hard start, and then no-start over a period of a month.
It was the dreaded leaking injector seals (copper rings) problem where the leaking gasses overheated and cooked the injector. I left mine to long and had to replace all the injectors. I bought thm from Bosch and did it myself.
