Deadlocking seems to be a standard Mk7 Golf feature in the UK, but not in the US as on my Mk7 Golf. I'd like to enable this if possible.

I like to park the car with the windows down a bit on hot days. The auto rain close works perfectly if there's an unexpected rain shower. The problem is that my fob seems to only unlock and lock the doors. In the UK the fob locking prevents the doors from being opened by the inside door handle unless one presses the fob's lock button twice. With the windows down I can reach in and pull the inside door handle to open the door. One or two lock presses and waiting a while makes no difference.

My car has only the immobilizer, not a full alarm system.

Is there a way to enable deadlocking?

I suspect the FMVSS do not allow such deadlocking, and traditionally, there were mechanical differences that prevented it. However, I do not know whether that's still true on the Mk.7.

From what I can tell on my A3 (same MQB platform) there are mechanical differences in the locks.
I'll give it a look and report back.

There seems to be a NAR specific part number for the door locks, so I'm guessing deadlocking won't be available for your car.

pbrowne: Hi. I've never understood VW's rationale for optioning their vehicles in various countries, but I suspect the difference in your US mk7 Golf and its counterpart in the UK goes way back to the days of your war of independence!! Fortuitously (or, not) we here in the Antipodes, never had such a schism with our founders, so VW has deemed that it is OK for us to inherit the same features as those of England's mk7!! One of these features is the deadlock facility. VW call this "SAFELOCK" and whenever we turn-off the ignition key in our cars we get a warning message to "CHECK SAFELOCK" (in case a child is left in the vehicle on a hot day - I think).

Anyhow, I've had a good look at the adaptation channels and the coding in my car (which has SAFELOCK) and it doesn't appear to be a selectable item in any control modules (particularly the driver/passenger door modules, or the BCM). Given this and m_bloc's advice. I suspect that the feature is innate in the ROW/NAR model DNA - alas

Cheers
Don

PS: I was joking about the merits of not having a stoush with our English founders -there are lot's of advantages in being a Republic (IMO) - the best of which is that we would be able to elect our own head-of-State (which is our Governor General)!!

There are basically two sets of standards for cars in the world:
The EU standards and the US standards.

In much of the rest of the world, a car built to either of these sets of standards is acceptable. But there are things allowed by EU standards that aren't allowed by US standards and vise-versa.

PS: The Republic was a great idea, but alas, we were not able to keep it.

Just to close off this topic (don't like loose-ends) and as confirmation of m_block's advice, the WD for those mk7s that are fitted with "deadlocks" (SAFELOCK) appear to have an additional motor in the door lock unit.

Don, you got in before me. :)

I've had the lock mechanisms to pieces on my A4 8K and confirm there's a smaller motor that drives the SAFE lock.

p.s. I didn't just take them to pieces for this thread though...
