Hi all,

We currently have a 1997 Golf GTI 2.0 16v in the workshop with a faulty ABS controller.

Part number of the bad controller is 3A0 907 379E, Software Coding: 03704

Component and/or Version: ABS/EDS ITTAE 20 GI V00
Software Coding: 03704
Work Shop Code: WSC 00000
VCID: 2C57E3E7DC87F55EDA-4A84

The customer has provided us with a secondhand replacement controller 3A0 907 379A, Software Coding: 03604.

When we plug in this controller we get a control module incorrectly coded error. Entering the new coding has no effect.

As far as I know the controllers should be interchangeable because they both have the EDL function but I am open to correction on that.

First of all does anybody know if these controllers are interchangeable?

Secondly assuming they are then does anybody know if they require a login like the Bosch 5.3/5.5 before allowing coding? If so then can anyone shed any light on the procedure for generating the login?

Thanks in advance,

George

No, those control modules are not interchangable. Even though both have ABS/EDS (you call it EDL), they are covering different build dates. There was a switch mid MY 1997, new ones use 3A0-907-379-E while the old ones had 3A0-907-379-C (which is the supersession for 3A0-907-379-A). Long story short, you got the wrong module.

As for the coding, once you access the coding function in VCDS the software will provide you with a coding table - also noting that the newer coding value applies to vehicles as of a certain build date. Coding these modules does NOT require any special login (otherwise we would have mentioned and provided it as part of the coding table), your replacement module is simply too old to support the coding you're trying to save.

or because this is an old A3 you could possibly add the matched attributes that are missing making the used ABS module happy.

Please post a complete auto-scan to check attributes if can be modified through proper research.
