With all the AI in the news these days, I wonder if any is in the VW/Audi current models / CAN-BUS systems?

That is the responsibility of CARIAD now, mind you they have had a “structural and personnel realignment” (AKA everyone got fired) now twice since their establishment four years ago.

I'm sure as time goes on, those who don't make a good attempt to harness AI/machine learning will ultimately get left in the dust.

So, for VW's sake, they had better be on the train if they don't want to get runover by those who have embraced it and integrated it successfully, and not just physically in the cars, but also as part of their entire R&D process.

As you pointed out... that group has had a couple house-cleanings already.

It was worded as "a structural and personnel realignment" nice way of saying everyone got fired.

I doubt everyone got fired. I mean look at Twitter -- they did a "realignment" and only fired 80% of their staff.

What are you expecting from AI in cars and what from AI in R&D process? "Everyone" is nowadays using AI like a buzzword, almost as a synonym for something very technical and smart.

True autonomous driving. Level 5 definitely cannot be achieved without it, and I'm skeptical about level 4. For level 5, the vehicle has be be able to respond appropriately to unexpected events; events that were never contemplated by the programmers. Humans are still much better than cars at this. But for how long?

The manufacturers will get to level 5 and even beyond but it will never be perfect and crashes will still happen, a lot less of them but not zero. So WHEN a computerised car kills somebody, who takes the blame? It also makes me think why all trains aren’t autonomous, it isn’t as if they have a steering wheel… me thinks it is more a Union thing.
