Anyone with a stock CJAA with no engine codes, show me MVB 89!

Had someone come by having trouble passing Oregon DEQ (our version of state inspection/smog check) and could not pass readiness. When I saw him yesterday, a couple monitors had not yet set, including catalyst/DPF monitoring, so I did force regen while driving in adaptations and told him to not shut it off until the DPF light turned off.

Came back today, the remaining readiness monitors had set, but he reiterated that the smog check station was extra worried about the car appearing to not have a "fuel system" readiness monitor, and the DEQ technician claims that it should.

So, just curious to do a little data mining, if anyone here has a stock CJAA where all the monitors are set/CEL off/no codes set, I would be curious to see MVB 89. That's the binary that will show what monitors are installed and which ones are set to ready.

It will look like this:
index.php

MVB binary definitions found in this tech bulletin: https://static.nhtsa.gov/odi/tsbs/2015/MC-10123033-9999.pdf

Something that could be added to VCDS' built in label file for CBEA/CJAA engines too?

I would suggest checking it using the OBD-II function in VCDS. That's the same way an emissions test will check it:

I did initially. It said 'not installed' for Fuel System. The EOBD binary should be the same information.

Apparently that is normal for these cars. If everything reads "Passed" or "Not installed", and there are no OBD faults, the car should pass the emissions test.

I did get some feedback from a couple CJAA owners, some who's readiness was not set to "ready" but did infact have the "Fuel System" readiness monitor installed.

After some back and forth with Malone, we got a file that got the fuel system readiness to re-enable on this ECU and did set naturally after a few drive cycles and also forced a regen while driving to help speed along the readiness process.

He came back today to double check before getting the car smogged and everything had passed, including the once missing "fuel system" monitor. Bit #1 of MVB 89/2 showing that it is now "installed".

And this page in the Generic OBD2 mode did formerly have it greyed out, saying "not installed." Now, it is not only installed but passed as "ready":

Just two different ways to go about getting the same information. For sure the readiness mode in generic OBD2 is a lot easier to read than MVB89, especially since the binary definitions aren't in the VCDS label file, but fortunately that tech tip had the information needed. Never hurts to be informed on the multiple different ways to obtain the same information.

This also helped, showing that MVB89/2, bit 1 did indeed read "1" on this one. The two other people on a Facebook group with CJAAs that got me screenshots also showed they had the fuel system monitor installed in MVB89/2 bit #1.

I have not searched all UK label files, but I think it is available in some.

So this thing was "tuned"? It might have been good to mention that from the get-go. ;)

-Uwe-

Yes, tuned. I wasn't involved with that part, I was just trying to fix the problem/verify if it even is supposed to be a problem.
