Hi,

My A3 e-tron (5yo, 76000km) has P0A7D and P2884 faults and the service guy wants to replace the transmission (for $39k) ... bold as brass !! Says there is no replacement used transmission available.

I understand the P0A7D is pointing to a battery internal failure which might be indicated by a slight lowering in range when fully charged. But the battery is still under warranty, no?

I understand the P2884 is "Engine Disconnect Clutch Stuck Open".

The car still drives, the warning light "Drivetrain Failure" seems to get extinguished when the car is put into reverse. The first time it happened (before seeing the dealer) the car drove in like a "get home" mode .. gradually slowed and then stopped.
The 2nd time (on the way home from the dealer) the light came on again, did the reverse "hack" and the car home without any more drama.

Cheers

Your asking us?

(not sure if this is under warranty visit?) but.....I would take it back to the dealer, drive it around the block when they say it is fixed, and when "the light comes on again" take it right back and leave it there until the light stays off!

VCDS Auto-Scan would help also..... If you know someone with a legitimate VCDS interface, you can post that scan from your vehicle. It will not count against the other persons VIN count.

Yeah, I don't have a scanner but friends do so it's an option.

The battery is only to small problem, overlooked by the trans. Yes, I intend to challenge the dealership to fix it (if it is under warranty) as it at lest increases the scrap value of the car.
And since I was looking, I noticed that fully charged it has only 30km range (down from the expected 40 km) so indicative of a fault.

I'm here mainly for opinions about the transmission. I just drove the car, no warning lights, drove as expected on EV and gas. Nothing I trawled on the internet suggested replacing the transmission as the "only" solution. One TSB saif to replace the "mechatronic unit" which may well be a PITA.

And yes, if a $39k repair is needed, then the car is scrap (after much, almost certainly fruitless, complaining).

P0A7D and P2884
P0A7D -- HV Battery Pack: State of Charge Low
P2884 -- Engine Disconnect Clutch: Stuck Open

But the battery is still under warranty, no?
My recollection is the battery has an 8 year and either 80,000 or 100,000 mile warranty.

If you had VCDS, I'd ask the see the individual cell voltages. ;)

Does it not take a charge?

come again ????
Transmission in them is pretty special since it also contains the "e-machine" (motor/generator) and a third clutch between the e-machine and the engine. However, I doubt the whole transmission needs to be replaced just because that clutch is stuck open.

thx guys. yep that's what they quoted me to replace the transmission ... $34k parts, $39k total !!

Car charges ok ... I noticed (since I was looking) that fully charged the range is down to 30km (from 40km if I remember correctly). So like I say I think the battery problem is real, an issue that needs to be sorted but nothing making the car undrivable; and still under warranty.

It's the transmission one that puzzles me.
However, I doubt the whole transmission needs to be replaced just because that clutch is stuck open.
Yeah, I agree. Car drives fine, no fault lights.

I'm going to talk to a local transmission shop tomorrow.

Does the engine start? Or do you mean it drives fine in electric mode only?

I'm going to talk to a local transmission shop tomorrow.
Uhm... I really doubt a "local transmission shop" is qualified to work on it.
