Is there a way to turn off the instrument cluster lighting when the headlights are not turned on in a b5 s4? I know in my 2001 a4 the cluster lights only turn on with the headlights. In the s4 the lights are always on? Would like them to be only on with the headlights. Tried adaption channel 19 like in the b6/b7's but the channel is not accessible in the b5. Anybody know of a way to do this? Thanks.

Anyone? Also having problems changing the service interval. I swapped this gauge cluster from a 2000 s4 into my 2001 a4. Everything seems to be working ok except I can't change the service interval. With my 2001 cluster I am able to change settings in groups 40, 42 & 43 to get the service reminder to say what I want. With this s4 cluster no matter what I change the numbers to in those fields I get no change in the displayed service reminder. It says service in 8100 miles at all times. Any info would be helpful.

I'm not aware of any way to tweak the lighting in B5 clusters.

For your service reminder question, post the stored values in channels 40-48. The easiest way to do that is to click [SRI Reset], wait for VCDS to read the channels, then click [Save to logfile] and post the contents.

OK, it makes no sense to me why that cluster is showing 8100 miles to service. If you drive it for a few hundred miles, is does the 8100 decrease?

-Uwe-

Haven't driven it more than 50 or so miles yet. I'll post back when i drive a few hundred miles and see if there is any change.

I'm stumped. I think at this point I would try a cold boot of the cluster, (remove all power from it) and/or a general Adaptation reset (Channel 0, [Read] -> [Save]).

Tried doing a general reset and value still will not change no matter what numbers I put in channels 40-46.
