However, I suspect that driving a manual at all, much less properly, is rapidly becoming a lost skill.

-Uwe-

It is, and I'm quite happily part of the reason. I believe driving should be calming, relaxing. I find clutches to be neither.

Ironically, though, I like motorcycle gearboxes. Go figure. :D

If a person knows how to drive a manual properly, and doesn't intentionally abuse the clutch, it can last much longer than that. However, I suspect that driving a manual at all, much less properly, is rapidly becoming a lost skill.

-Uwe-
I drive my shit like I stole it so they never last longer than that.

If it goes tits up, that's why I called that rolling the dice. The client should be aware of this possibility from the outset.

I don't gamble and customers have very poor memories of the warnings you give them also, in the UK, if you fit a part supplied by a customer, it is your problem if it fails.

@Crasher, couldn't you state on the invoice that you installed a customer provided part and that no warranty is provided for that part? No labor either?

I get what you are saying. If you put in the part and UK rules require you to fix it owing to the labor supplied, you are screwed. You could end up with a no win scenario that would drain your wallet fast.

Whatever you put on the invoice some clever dick lawyer would find a way around it. We are VAT registered and have to provide an invoice, no cash jobs allowed. As a friend of mine once said, you can screw around with the Police and other officials but don't fuck with the tax man, they have more powers than than MI5!

A classic example of UK stupidity, If i change a battery I have to keep it secure until it can be handed over and signed off for recycling, if I left it outside in a locked compound and someone entered illegally, took the battery and then dumped it, it is my responsivity. Another, if someone broke into my buildings and hurt themselves with some chemicals we had in an open cupboard, they can sue me! I heard last week that someone stole a motorbike from outside a friends garage and sped off only to find it had no brakes, the company fixing the bike are being sued by the thief for his injuries! Another new UK law, children born as a result of rape will now be automatically classified as victims.

And lawyers wonder why everyone hates them.

Yes, it will. TCU is a part of the mechatronics. It's the part behind a flate metal plate, to which the two circuit boards will connect to. Pictures on the internet suggest (Google "0b5 tcu") that the TCU can be removed from the mechatronics. Though there may be caveats, which I don't know.

Have a look at this from page 24, so You can get an idea how the 0B5 works. Page 36 may give an answer to your 2-4-6-R question -> https://procarmanuals.com/pdf-onlin...ons-7-speed-dual-clutch-gearbox-0b5-s-tronic/
Thanks. Cleared out a lot of questions.

Can you post pictures of the plates and solenoids? Also post pictures of the mech once you have it out before making any changes to it if possible.
Yes I will, I m only running a bit late with my project, since another project needed some priority. I post it here. And I want to let you know I definitely appreciate your help. I drained the fluid and it was only about 2-3 quarts only, looks clean and from looking under it looks main transmission plugged and the visible plate connection is connected as well. I didn t lower the mech jet, but as soon as I do post some photos. Thanks again

First red flag 2-3 quarts is not enough. That transmission need to be filled with engine running. The bottom pan holds 5-6 quarts. Do you have a fluid sample of know which fluid was in it and if its correct? What color is the fluid? Does it smell like gear oil?

Based on THIS photo, it appears the fluid was originally gold or green colored, but has been running hot so it's turning brown... which makes sense if it was under-filled.

Can't assume the color based on that photo given the fact that the container is green in color.

Yep, need to put a sample in a clear, colorless glass container to truly evaluate color.

Sure, if you want to be absolutely 100% sure. I have a >90% confidence in what I said. There's enough information in that photo to ascertain the color.

The bucket is opaque and top-lit (instead of edge-lit), and there's a black background (by way of the transmission pan) plus a silver reference (the gasket-mating surface of the pan) to diffuse the very small amount of green color "bleeding" from the bucket. If the transmission fluid was red or blue, it would be significantly darker than it currently appears. The fact that it's translucent and has a gold/green tint is NOT from the color of the bucket.

That said, color alone will not tell you much about the fluid, since transmission fluid colors are not standardized (unlike brake fluid). All we know for sure is the transmission has been running hot and burning the fluid, since it's got brown in it. EDIT: And it was most likely under-filled.

OK mech removed and post photos. Just to point out about the fluid, when I ve put into container, it became a bit more and it s between 3-4 quart, still little compered to 7ish. The photo, correct..... doesn t do justice to it s color. It s light yellow and looks clean, very flowing and smells close to hydraulic Febi fluid, what I used to use for convertible hydraulic pump. Matched with , what I ve found in the trunk some left over fluid, which says Febi gear oil, smells and looks the same. See link, left Febi gear oil found in trunk and right Liqui Moly dual clutch gear oil 8100

Also inside looks very clean, gears look good to my knowledge, I m not a specialist, just looking at it and haven t seen any metal shaving or small particles in the pan or on the magnet. Here, some photos

Good point, definitely under filled and yes on the photo looks darker than what it is. Good thing wasn t driven (couldn t be) and even the engine was turned on only for few minutes for scanning the car. Thanks for the observation. Could be that even, when stationery the transmission is working a bit, I m not a transmission specialist, but has to be something to that, if has to be filled or topped, while engine is running.

Ok here are some photos of the mech taken out, with the electric plates and everything as is. My observation and any other welcome, that the plates connections to solenoids visibly look ok. Plates and 3 solenoids, which were in the trunk and changed according to the previous owner look original audi, having the audi VW logos on the plates, solenoids just have numbers/letters. The installed plates and solenoids look cheaply made first no logo on any of them and wires only one color compered to the original, many. On the bigger plate there is one port/connector, but no solenoid installed. Pointing out with my finger the location. Question should it be like that or missing ?!?

Some people like to be 90% sure. I don't, I like to be certain, point being by using a color container it will change the color of the fluid. It has nothing to do with reference of colors(last time I checked I wasn't color blind.) but rather fluid condition. Are you aware that DSG fluid can be green in color, as is ATF used in some audi transmission going back as far as 2009. Check part number G060162A2, It's ATF and it's green. Sorry not trying to have a dick measuring contest here, but those are the facts.

Compare to the original board. But I will assume there is not solenoid there as the board is probably used in a few different configurations. Do the boards have the rubber bumper installed between the board and solenoid pins? there should be some green colored rubber bumpers. Finally why dont you post a picture of the serial number from the unit so we can determine correct finger height. Also are the 2 metal pressure tubes for the mech in the transmission? Please take pictures of inside of transmission so I can see if pressure tubes are present or not.
