Audi S5 convertible 2012 transmission problem

Hi everyone. After a short year I have another audi project. Here is attached the log file of the car. I ve bought the car recently from somebody, who had it at a local shop, which stated the following "transmission needs to be changed, as the new mechatronic unit can not learn the shift points due to being to worn out."
I want to hear inputs, what s the problem and what are the steps to fix ? Also I have read, that audi might have a recall on these transmissions, since it s a common transmission problem with these cars. If true and they fix it for free, what are the steps ? Engine turns over sounds ok. Radio needs attention as well. Thank you veey much

Is there a new mech in it or a new used mech installed? Also based on the fault you have I would say whoever put the mech in didnt hook up the connector inside the transmission . Also alot of unknowns, does it have the right fluid? is the coding correct? ha it been adapted and so on. Youll need odis to adapt if thats your issue. I would check and make sure you got a mech in there thats complete,setup correctly and installed correctly.

I agree with you. I have to find out. It seems for me too that it s not hooked up. Is VCDS good for coding/marrying parts to the car, how about doing adaptation ? Is it possible to buy ODIS and where from and what price are we looking at, also user friendly/relativly easy to do stuff on it ? What s the right transmission fluid ? To buy odis is not going to be cost worthy for you as an individual to use it only for this vehicle or rarely. Youll need a decent laptop, original odis VCI is $1500, audi license for one year is $900, access to information for one year is $600 then for security related taks I believe they are still using security tokens. 1 token per security task iirc, 1 token is $100 iirc. It's been a while. VCDS can do coding and basic settings and some adaptions, but for security related tasks like immo youll need odis with geko id and online connection also note VAG changed their policy on used parts and you may or may not be able to adapt a used mech to a vehicle. I tried adapting a used BCM to a q5 today ODIS gave me the big FU, need to either virginize the unit or submit paperwork to VAG and pray to god that they approve it. As far as I kno unless you have a really good valid reason they always get denied. ODIS is somewhat user friendly if you know these cars well otherwise it can be a bit challenging. S5 will have a DSG in it I'm sure. For fluid it should take G052529A2. It is a 0B5 trans, which are somewhat known to be piles or garbage. Fluid changes should be done more frequently to avoid issues.

The car shifted perfectly into gears 1,3,5,7. Gears 2,4,6 were late or slipped." This is before dropping at the shop. To my question, what was the change after the new mech unit installation? He knows only, what the shop said "transmission needs to be changed, as the new mechatronic unit can not learn the shift points due to being to worn out." I didn t have time yet to check electrical connection to the transmission and farther on at the mech unit.

My guess is that the shop that did the work knows very little about that transmission or those cars all together. Those mech units have a set height for each finger"hook" that in the mech when installing. If you install and miss a finger "hook" or have them at the wrong height you will the same issues. Once installed, they need to be adapted and gear recognition sensor needs to be calibrated.

In my professional opinion I would drop the pans and inspect the mech before throwing a trans at it. CP has to be done with ODIS via online connection using geko id.

Hi, thanks for reading. I ve bought the car and seen the other day that at the front of the AC condenser is a wiring harness which splits and one harness goes up and plugs into the condenser, the other just hangs down (having 3 electrical wires) and connector/plug is missing. Easily reaching to the ground and could have been longer as well. I want to find out where should it plug and what king of connector is missing (should I buy) ? I ve bought the car from a guy, who had it at a shop bc transmission problem. He said 1,3,5,7 shifted perfectly and R,2,4,6 were late or slipped. What parts have the component protections and how is possible to know/what to look for ? Dual clutch system, so it means one part worked good and the other not. Right now nothing works. According to the previous owner, they changed and put a "new" mech unit, he said the old is in the trunk, but I only found 2 electrical plates and 3 solenoids. I had the plan to order a "mech unit repair kit", which has the 2 electrical plate and some cases 3 solenoids. Also at the case of having those changed does it require component protection coding ? Or only VCDS adaptations ? Also I need good recommendation link for parts, mech unit repair kit, which has the parts, which responsible for R,2,4,6. Thanks
