Resolved Audi A4 B7 3.2 Quattro cabrio (UK) - boot handle not opening trunk

Hi,
Boot (tailgate/trunk) handle has never opened boot on this car since my purchase - does nothing when pressed (squeezed..).
Boot opens with long press of the middle button on keyfobs only.
Never been that bothered until I shut the boot with the keys in and had to dismantle the very secure ski flap in rear seats from passenger compartment side (not easy with no tools) to retrieve key (was away from home).
I have replaced the full boot grip handle trim moulding 8E0827576 (not necessary but was very corroded and crap LED number plate lights were corroded and wedged in), the tailgate trunk handle push button 8E0827566 and the number plate light wiring harness 8E0971145 which includes the trunk handle microswitch.

From wiring diagrams, the trunk handle microswitch (F248) goes directly into the J393 Convenience system central control unit (5/10)
My next move would be to locate the Convenience system central control unit and check the loom between switch and unit.

Just wondering if there is any coding which could inhibit the switch, bearing in mind that when purchased the vehicle had wrong VIN and wrong coding (Avant with no light/rain senor) in central electronics unit.

Replying to my own post...
Learnt a load from this very timely thread:

2007 VW Jetta-Had dealer reprogram new key, now trunk opens when unlocking doors. Gas door switch and trunck switch in DS door do not work.

Hi all- recent owner of a 2007 Jetta. Bought it with only one key, so I went to local dealer to order new key and fob. They programmed chip and fob, now every time I unlock the doors, the trunk pops open. Prior to reprogramming, all worked just fine with original key, prior to the reprogramming...

It looks like you should be checking out 46-08-005.3 and see if it changes when you try to operate the soft touch release of the rear lid.

The F248 is described as follows:

• rear lid lock cylinder unlock button (USA)
• release button for rear lid lock cylinder (UK)
• taster für entriegelung des heckklappen-schließzylinders (French Canadian, maybe....)

I think that might be a switch operated by the key lock, not the soft touch release... hopefully some one else can chime in and verify or correct this.

46-08-005.3 is indeed 'Soft-Touch Trunk Lid Release'. Monitoring it I get 'Activated' whilst *not* pressing the switch and 'Not Oper.' when *pressing* the switch which is great that the switch is physically working but I would have expected the input to be described the opposite way around?

Looking at the coding for 46 (06799), in byte 0 I have the following:

I'm unsure what Bit 4 'Rear Lid Release Locking at 5km/h' means?

Gentle bump; looks like input from soft touch switch is working (but oddly described in VCDS), output from convenience module is working as trunk opens with keyfob but soft touch handle has no effect..

Lock the car up. Press and hold the rear lid button on the remote for about 3 seconds. Does the rear lid pop open? Do you get any parking lights that blink? If the rear lid doesn't open, but the lights blink... what happens if you operate the soft touch release at the rear lid?

The installed CCM, 8H0 959 433 H, I have a 6 other examples on file, coding 06779 is used on 5 of the 6 examples found... well, your car is one of those examples. So a super rare part number, but coding seem plausible as it is.

Any chance there is some sort of valet parking feature in this car that intentionally makes accessing the trunk difficult? Check the owner's manual. We had some similar issues with a 2005 A6 and found there's a hidden lock under the trunk lid. With it in one position, the soft touch trunk opening would not work. With it in the other, it works as expected.

took me there although in UK (on my vehicle) there is no internal boot release button, only the soft touch on the boot lit itself.
Same issue though:

Key barrel slot was horizontal. Turned vertical and soft touch button works fine. FML..
