Hello all,
First time attempting some car repair here. Got quoted 2000 from the dealer to fix my broken defrost. I'm not really a "car guy" but am pretty handy, have fixed my home HVAC a couple times, so thought I'd give fixing the HVAC in my car a shot. Definitely loving the learning experience already, getting set up with VCDS and some other tools, and maybe I'll turn into a car guy after all.
Anyway, the fault codes I'm getting are for "Missing Calibration / Basic Setting" on my defrost flap motor, and my recirculation flap motor. This made me think simply re-running the Basic Settings "Adapt Door End Stops" might help, but it finished successfully without repairing anything. So probably the motors actually do need to be replaced.
I've seen some good Youtube videos on how to perform this sort of repair, seems like I need to take out the glove box to get at the defrost motor (not sure about the recirculation motor yet). I think my big questions are

- When I do get to the motors, how do I know the right exact part number? I found this part guide that seems to have the actuator motors as #s 24-28. The dealer said they are both part # "5WA907511C" but I've seen several online repair guides say to get "5WA907511B". It seems like maybe those are both functionally the same, just different versions?
- Is there a better way of figuring out the best way to get at these motors other than trying to find someone doing the same thing on YouTube? As I said, I found a great guide for specifically the defrost motor, but haven't had much luck with the recirculation yet
- VCDS specific question - the expected/actual values for the recirculation and defrost vents - does this mean that the recirculation flap is stuck "open" at 100% and the defrost is stuck "closed" at 0%? Or do those values mean something else?
