Good day all,

Interested in trying to retrofit power folding and memory mirrors to my 2010 Jetta TDi. I've acquired two sets of modules from vehicles with those options: 2010 CC (module part number: 3C0 959 792/3 A; UDS protocol) and 2012 Tiguan (part #: 5K0 959 792/3 A; CAN protocol), but having difficulty getting them to function correctly. At a minimum, the 2010 CC modules are not allowing full window travel (I've attempted to relearn movement parameters with the window switch multiple times to no avail) and with the Tiguan modules in, the driver's door states it cannot communicate with rear right door and the passenger's door cannot communicate with the rear left door. The part numbers on my factory-installed modules are 1k0 959 792/3 N (CAN protocol). Is there any possibility of getting either set to work in my car or do I need to start with Jetta-specific modules? Any help is greatly appreciated! Including scan below with relevant modules. CC isn't a good source for door modules as it has frameless windows and thus has the window dipping function, which framed windows doors don't need. There was some way of getting to work them more suitably in this regard but I don't remember what it was...

You can install front modules 1K0 959 701AE / 702AE which are Gen3 High modules to gain the desired functionality. You can also use 3C0 959 701C / 702C or 561 959 701C / 702C but you may also have to upgrade your CAN gateway to a newer 7N0 907 530 version.

Ideally you would need to also retrofit the driver's full electric memory seat as the mirror memory is stored in the driver seat's control module.

Thanks for the reply! This would probably explain why the CC modules make the windows go down briefly when shutting down the vehicle. I'l look into those modules. Are CAN gateways swappable between vehicles?

Yep, already have a driver's seat with memory that has been tested in the car and seems to work.

Of course. CAN gateway swap from 1K0 (or other) to 7N0 is a common thing when one wants to retrofit UDS modules or newer radios.

But did you connect the memory seat to Comfort CAN? Because there is no module 36 present in your autoscan. For the mirror memory, you will need to do that.

Thank you. That's is certainly helpful information.

Yep, I wired comfort CAN to the driver seat connection. I temporarily connected the seat and verified I could access the control module and the seat would store and recall motor positions. Don't have it currently in the car as I'd like to get it reupholstered first.

Updated the CAN gateway today. Came from the same 2012 Tiguan. Still not able to directly communicate with the rear door modules once I plug in the 2012 Tiguan front door controllers. The label in these is GEN3.MAX and the Tiguan CAN gateway had the rear doors listed on its install list. Are the rears considered subsystems to the fronts in this model? Thanks in advance!

Please give part numbers for all the modules involved. What's the situation when you open coding in front door module and try to select the rear module from the drop-down menu?

Edit: On second thought, I don't know whether Gen3 rears play nice with Gen4 fronts, but I'm leaning on the rather not. You probably will have to change the rears as well.

Interestingly, the CC modules, which I think are Gen4, seem to communicate alright. It's just the window operation that's giving me problems. But I was beginning to think the same thing: that the Tiguan modules, despite being Gen3 (I believe), may have some hard set parameters as to which rear door modules they can communicate; wondering if they need Tiguan rear doors.

My factory modules are 1K0 959 701/2 AC; Tiguan is 5N0 959 701/2 E; and CC is 1T0 959 701/2 AG.

Forgot to perform a scan, but the only fault with the front doors was something regarding not having window motor parameters set. It was same on the driver's and passenger's side.

OK, I see you were trying Gen3 early CC modules ("1T0", Gen4 start with "3C8"). These should talk to your Gen3 Golf rears indeed. The Tiguan fronts seem to be Gen3 from an early non-UDS Tiguan and therefore should talk to your Gen3 Golf modules, but why not...dunno. These usually are paired with 5N0959703/704E rear modules.

I agree. I would want to check the 5N Tiguan wiring diagrams and compare those to the diagrams for the car to make sure VW didn't do something silly like move the LIN wire positions but I would have expected things to communicate correctly. I don't want to clutter up this thread with scans from different vehicles but I had a 2012 Tiggy SEL with folding mirrors, Seat mem on driver's side, etc and the scan to it lives here:

I checked that VIN specific Tiguan Convenience system from May 2011 diagram # 135 and it looks like J386 / 42-Driver's door module terminal T20a/15 LIN (purple/white) connected to J338 / 62-Rear door Left terminal T18c/12 LIN (white wire).

I would hope that's the same scheme but do compare that to your car. Needing to move a factory terminal or two would be better than needing to source different motors.

So, the label file, 3C0-959-70X-GEN4.CLB, on the CC modules doesn't necessarily mean they are Gen 4 modules? Not that it really matters, I guess, as they seem to communicate with the rears just fine. Obtaining Tiguan rears is an option, just wasn't expecting to need to replace all 4 doors to get the memory and mirror fold function up and working.

Right, did some research earlier to try and figure out which wire was for LIN Bus as I don't know much at all about the LIN and CAN systems. Found that it likely was a purple/white wire, which my MK5 (AJ) has in it's factory harness at T20a/15. When I remove that wire, VCDS reports no response from rear controller. I have the plugs from the Tiguan modules and it has a purple/white wire at T20a/15. In fact, all the Tiguan wires match my factory ones for that connector (one wire had a color change). Additionally, my factory harness had an additional wire (I think at location 1 or 10), not originally used as there was no pin in that location on my factory module, which was absent from the Tiguan harness.

Dana, thank you for the link to the Xenon thread. Looking forward to giving that a read through, as I have pipe dreams for that retrofit off into the future sometime.... I noticed that the Tiguan scan has the same modules that I'm using, however, the suffix of the label file, .lbl vs .clb was different. Is that important at all?

The VIN from the donor Tiguan is:WVGAV7AX7CW530313 if it's useful.

Just wanted to say thank you for everyone's input on this! It's been very helpful.

I wasn't expecting you to need 4 total new/used door modules either but it is leaning in that direction. Since your car was born with the older Gen 3 CAN protocol stuff I'd prob stick with that and add Tiguan rear Gen 3's (if needed). The only advantage I can think of in regards to going with the latest Gen 4 is that most (if not all) the UDS ones supported a mirror fold on locking type of Adaptation function. Older CAN Gen 3 modules (such as my prior 2012 Tiguan) did not support that tweak. I prefer to only fold those when needed and wouldn't want them folding every time you lock the car.

No, that doesn't matter. CLBs are just encrypted LBLs. The Generation (i.e. MIN3, MAX3) on the other hand does matter.
