I regularly drive a lot of miles in VA, but on I81, not on I95. Speed enforcement there is not particularly onerous. In fact, there's a couple of signs like this:

D8JJBXJ.jpg

Guess what the speed limit is there?

Yep. 70.

So the sign effectively says: "If you're no doing at least the speed limit, stay in the right-most lane!"

I have driven I-81 through the entire length of Virginia twice, and at least 8 more times driving most of it but cutting off onto I-77 near the SW end of the state. I love the signs that say their speed is enforced by aircraft, especially when the weather is IFR/MVFR. :D

Gotta get me some Winchester 50. :)

I-95 is the shorter and my preferred route to the south, but it is damn near impassible between Washington and the SC/GA border during the holidays. Look at the stretch between Richmond and Washington right now:

I gave I-95 one last chance in February of last year coming home from Georgia, and the traffic (about the same as above) was so bad that Google Maps routed me onto the (horrible) US-301 secondary road to save time. I'm an I-81 convert now, and will never see Pedro that SoB ever again.....

I-81 to I-77 route to southern SC or GA only adds about 1 - 1.5 hrs to the drive time. Considering you could spend 3-4 hrs in traffic between DC and Petersburg, the extra 1.5 hours is well worth it.

It is a more "civilized" route (read: lack of urban sprawl) even when I-95 *is* moving!

Back in the 1980's and 1990's, I could drive from home (SE NY State) to Daytona Beach, FL in 17.5 hours via I-95...set your watch to it. Leave home at midnight, be through the DC jungle before the morning rush, lunch at Krystals in Brunswick, GA, and into the family winter home's driveway at 5:30 PM just in time for dinner.

My sister and her husband asked me to haul some bulky stuff from up here to the Brunswick area in my race car trailer about 5 years ago. Left home at midnight, telling them that I should be there by 1:00 PM. Long story short, I ate lunch in North Carolina...and didn't pull into their driveway until almost midnight.

If anyone is driving down that way, US-321 from the end of I-77 drops you right onto I-95 at Hardeeville...the last town in SC before the GA border. Almost like driving US-66 out west, and no traffic except an occasional local heading to the store:

I made a "Cars" movie joke as we turned onto US-321 for the first time, and ironically a few miles later there was a Tow Mater, Doc Hudson, and several other characters at a repair shop:

Plenty of other vintage Americana camera fodder along the way:

Looks like the Walking Dead props stage & soon to be like the unlawful tuners deleting SMOG readiness. /\

I understand it was a light turn out this year for Englishtown.
I often wonder how many cars were unlawfully programmed and to be documented to be driven with the intent on US streets containing a VIN# Nefariously! ........?
Maybe we will find out soon............

I do see who wasn't there though...............

<=== Wasn't there. (Have the staff event t-shirts from year one through 2001, though.)

Has there really been 23 of those events already? Seems like just yesterday that I was pulling into WF #1 in my week-old GTI!

Trade shows in general are hurting in the online era, and it is no surprise that car show attendance/participation would also be down.....

When government over-regulates, the (free, informal) market, like life, uh, finds a way.

Agreed or a path to create a scheme or underground economy .........look at what abolishing alcohol did.....

Really just matters what the law is or how it should be repealed.........until then it's still illegal.

Call me crazy for wanting clean air to breathe.........

At the same time I'd like to see an EGR valve be outlawed, further seen as being sodomy of an engines tail pipe & as ass to mouth.

Hyperbole.

There are very few places in the world where NOx levels in the air are high enough to cause anyone any health issues. Current emissions standards are written to clean up those few areas (e.g. the Los Angeles basin). In most of the rest of the world, they are completely pointless.

Yeah that guy can be full of shit cause he has videos like low test and high test fuel don't make a difference on fuel efficiency and MPG.

Well considering that.......... why don't they stop the lightening thunderstorms with the HARP weather dominator?

:D

NOX really isn't the issue .........it's the Carbon monoxide that concerns me.......
That is no doubt a killer.

So are sodium and lard, yet you don't let that stop you from intentionally chowing down on a bucket of Popeye's Chicken or Outback wings / deep-fried mushrooms!

Let me know if you want to try my spare IV "albatross" infusion pump on for size/weight.....

I wonder what the NOX emissions are from my '72 Beetle.

It probably makes up for the difference of 1000 new cars.

Provide it's running slightly on the rich side, they're probably nil.

You get NOx wen there's an more oxygen in the cylinder than fuel to burn it with. At a high enough temperature, the nitrogen (78% of the air) starts to form NOx compounds with any residual oxygen. If there's no residual oxygen, there's no NOx, and oxygen would much rather combine with Carbon or Hydrogen atoms in the fuel than with Nitrogen.
