Emergency Brake. Mk6 Golf Gti

Hey guy's i was just curious i have a 2010 Golf Gti and i was wondering the light that comes up on the dash when i pull up the Brake it says brake instead of the symbol that comes on in the European spec cars. I see that the symbol is there just wondering if you can change it with the Vcds. I wan't it to show up as the symbol below. right now it looks like this.

Well, the dial (is that correct name for it?) is different on US and RoW cars. It's physically impossible to switch between this two lights just with any diagnostic software, of course you can change the "dial" but I don't know if any cluster have handbrake symbol with speed in miles. Maybe from UK car it will fit, but it will require disassemble the cluster and calibrate it.

Yeah the actual dial is there on my cluster. I figured it was possible because when i wired up the rear fog it shows up on my cluster now. I was thinking of recoding the cluster to act like the ROW cluster.

It was very popular method 20-15 years back in Golf mk3 era when "dealers" were pulling out lights from dash just to sell you a car without any faults. (on dash at least) BTW I don't really understand what do you mean by "acting like ROW cluster"?
Both handbrake lights are on same position in US or UK or ROW, it's just different picture so when you swap it you already have it like you want it without recoding anything.

I have spare UK cluster gauge(160MPH), but based on distance i don't know how useful sending this is.

Can you give me the part number of your cluster? I have never seen one with both lights. They are always on right of esp. Where the ROW symbol is located?

Part number is 5K6 920 970 G.

Did you try changing the country coding in the instrument panel? Although I'm not sure this would activate it anyway. I done one in a mk5 gti but I needed to swap the cluster to do so.

Is no matter where cluster was made (manufacture or destination country)
Old cluster HW / SW use only (!) for hand brake and brake issue because dont have (P) due to HW limit ( BULB issue indicator is in that place)
New Cluster HW/SW use (P) for hand brake and (!) for brake issue
is possible change indicator from (P) to (!) only via EEprom changes
Have look here , picture compare Old new NEW HW disc , (speed disc is always this same)

Ignore Washer fluid indicators , but this is a example how to compare Old HW to NEW HW
EU / UK cluster have always (P) or (!) and C temperature
US cluster always (BRAKE) or (CRUISE) and F temperature
Lucky we that 90C = 130F so RPM disc can be easy swap , this same if you want to swap speed disc from US Golf wirh MPH to UK Golf Mph
Swap Mph dspeed disc to Km/h will not work even if 60Mph (TOP) is almost 100Km./h (TOP) ...but cure speed from 0 to 90 and from 90 to 240 is not this same

all UK cars have the symbol for the hand brake, the only way you can have that over BRAKE is to replace the foil after removing the needle

Yeah i am going to have to change out the cluster. Thanks for everyone's input. I have that symbol in the picture with the line through it what is that for? Faulty brake system?

Crossed (P) is for EPB usually .
