Hobby and thirst for knowledge. :)

When my friends were playing with Action Man (GI Joe? - you know, action figures the size of a Barbie) and board games, I was taking things to bits to find out how they worked. Got my first proper tool kit when I was four, and have had an interest in engines and electronics ever since.

That’s very much what drew me to Ross-Tech, seeing the diagnostic socket on my Audi A4 B5 I built my own passive interface on breadboard, poking wires into the contacts of the DLC. I transferred my design to stripboard and put in an enclosure. I discovered Ross-Tech around then (circa 2000?) and I think my earliest version of Vag-Com is an alpha 0.70 I have stored somewhere. Obviously the RT interfaces after the ISO-COM were far superior so I had to get on board.

In my line of work (Railway Signalling) we have trackside datalinks which are very similar to CAN, over 20 miles long with 100 ohm line termination resistors at each end.
Okay, now I get it, thats why I come here, I guess thirst for knowledge even at my level.

Actually I should have played with barbie, maybe the Government would have thought me not amenable to doing a year in the jungle, but live and learn, water under the bridge. Thanks for the input.

Yes, it unlocks is when yellow wire is shorted to ground (brown/black at switch).
And locks when yellow wire is "shorted" via 770 ohm resistor to ground.

The fact you can both lock and unlock by key from driver's door suggests everything is good from BCM to locks?? The same with VCDS output tests?

The locks are driven from BCM pin T73a/11 and T73a/15 only (no chassis ground involved). The polarity is reversed between locking and unlocking functions (no chassis ground involved).
Yes correct except for V56 Drivers Door uses T73a/12 to unlock the rest By T73a/15 to door strip and Motors etc.No problems with unlock lol

Group 06 selected field 1 shows open field 2 shows closed field 3 open field 4 not oper

Next operate central locking switch to lock & it shows (Lock ) in field 4 like they should be locking,

Next operate central loking to unlock & it shows unlock in field 4
we have all 3 states non oper - unlock - lock

Far fetched but is it possible that you can't lock the van simply because you have bonnet and/or rear door open??
However, T6 locks just fine even there are hatches open - never played these with T5.1

Next operate central loking to unlock & it shows unlock in field 4
we have all 3 states non oper - unlock - lock
This proves the BCM "sees" all the states of the switch correctly.

This proves the BCM "sees" all the states of the switch correctly.
The rear Door ( Lid ) switch is broke i have tried it with the wires open and twisted together to imitate the switch. 2 wires.
The bonnet sometime it is closed & sometimes open when working in that area, i will try both Bonnet closed & possibly get new rear switch but you have to buy the whole assembly not the switch on its own, i know the wipers wont work if you have the bonnet
open on some vw's i will also check the switch for the bonnet is correctly working, the rear lid either although that switch was showing continuity when imitating by joining the 2 wires, the metal contact strip had broken, at least i can see as you posted it the fields what they are in MVB there ought to be
a list of MVB so make life easier, thanks

Hi yes except Unlock is T73a/12 Not 15, 15 is output for doors contact switch etc strip. At least it seems the Bcm is good, it should be as a new item.
i am going to see if i can get hold of another Door card Harness although the continuity shows all wires good, but not much else to try
Hi as #119 & quote here,, Thanks for the MVB listing it helped a lot to see the status of the Groups, i changed a few things today all at once the Door Card Harness the rear Lid lock assembly & the micro switch on the Rear lid handle, although with the bonnet closed 1) it showed closed, the Rear Lid closed 2) & Rear Lid ajar at first latch 3) & 4 lock when activated, The rear lid lock was a bit iffy to get it to show closed unless you gave it a good slam, so its been changed to genuine Vw as a After market one was fitted.
It now locks by the Central locking switch, But as soon as it locks, it then Unlocks, But No action on the Rear Lid Lock actuator. like no power.

I took a look at the wiring Diagram & where most of the Doors use the T73a/11 vi for output the Rear Lid is Different and two diagrams one for rear electric lid and one for None, i have Elecetric Rear Lid opener there is a brown connector in N/S a post which has a vi wire in the male side which goes up to the roof channel all the way to T17C a Bk connector by the D post and the connector wires at T17C then change to all whites into the Rear Lid componets, I traced this up the vi out of the Brown connector is input NOT output for the Rear Lid, it is input for the rear lid handle switch, The female side of the brown connector comes out Gn not Vi to the J519 T73a/23 input, & T73a/10 Br/Wt output J519 to the Rear Lid Lock via T17C so tomorow going to check this out and see what i find i know the rear Lid actuator works as i powered it by probe.

You have tailgate? (=not barn doors).
Perhaps you could try the following coding changes (as OEM tailgate coding):

You have tailgate? (=not barn doors).
Perhaps you could try the following coding changes (as OEM tailgate coding):

Yes we have TailGate
Today i checked the Continuity for input from j519 T73a/23 and output T73a/10 all good all the way to the rear Lid inc the micro switch and the Gnd .
But NO power to the actuator for the Rear Lid Lock

So i thought has to be Coding ? I saved what i had and tried a few ) one was adding Byte 1 bit 2 Central locking rear Lid then some German writting Although Bit 7 has Central locking/Rear Lid already ticked in the coding,, then i think i changed something to do with safe lock cant be certain without going back into coding, But Now the Doors unlock and Lock as they should, Except still no action for the rear Lid, no power, do you think i should remove anyway Byte 1 bit 2,
I will save the coding i have for my records and log the suggestions for other coding to try suggested

Try the proposed changes .
Byte 1 bit 2 ok i can correct that to 0 as all transporters, and make a few changes, save what i have just incase,

I tried the suggested & it worked thanks for the suggestion. i see the Byte 7 bit 0 is Rear left sliding Door ? but it worked for tailgate
BCM byte 2 - now value 30 - change to 39.

After looking into this I have some suggestions:

1) I initially suggested 01-Engine coding of 0111401A232401080000 but after realizing this is 9M0 Without auxiliary heater/parking heater I tweaked that. Go with this as a starting point instead:

01114012232401080000

2) Starting point for 19-CAN Gateway coding: 042300

3) Starting points for 61-Battery Regul coding include one of these versions. Please try them in this order if the 1st doesn't allow you to clear 01044 - Control Module Incorrectly Coded:

030B1A73
230B1A73

4) Address 09-Cent. Elect is going to require some digging followed by trial and error. I honestly would leave that alone for now but these were the closest RHD strings I found:

I would consider those extremely experimental at best if you were to use those without breaking down each Byte.

5) Final closing comments. This van was factory equipped with a RCD of some sort (likely RCD-210) and the Radio they have installed looks like a Chinese market part number. If coding addresses 01, 19 and 61 followed by clearing ALL DTCs doesn't resolve most of the issues I would pull that radio out and keep it out until the major concerns such as the missing/offline Steering Angle HVAC and Airbag units are back online and communicating.

Please post the Auto-Scan after the above suggestions so we can see if there was any measurable progress.

based on page #28 the ecu coding i have used here is a scan to show exactly , My radiator fan once the engine is Running the FAN is running continously Engine Cold makes no difference, The van has problems as you can see reagrding Injector balance fault, The van is ongoing with work, I just wondered if the ecu coding is correct for Vehicle with AIRCON or is it a contious fan setup per coding

After looking into this I have some suggestions:

1) I initially suggested 01-Engine coding of 0111401A232401080000 but after realizing this is 9M0 Without auxiliary heater/parking heater I tweaked that. Go with this as a starting point instead:

01114012232401080000

2) Starting point for 19-CAN Gateway coding: 042300

3) Starting points for 61-Battery Regul coding include one of these versions. Please try them in this order if the 1st doesn't allow you to clear 01044 - Control Module Incorrectly Coded:

030B1A73
230B1A73

4) Address 09-Cent. Elect is going to require some digging followed by trial and error. I honestly would leave that alone for now but these were the closest RHD strings I found:

I would consider those extremely experimental at best if you were to use those without breaking down each Byte.

5) Final closing comments. This van was factory equipped with a RCD of some sort (likely RCD-210) and the Radio they have installed looks like a Chinese market part number. If coding addresses 01, 19 and 61 followed by clearing ALL DTCs doesn't resolve most of the issues I would pull that radio out and keep it out until the major concerns such as the missing/offline Steering Angle HVAC and Airbag units are back online and communicating.

Please post the Auto-Scan after the above suggestions so we can see if there was any measurable progress.

My radiator fan once the engine is Running the FAN is running continously Engine Cold makes no difference

Yes OAT sensor it could Be effecting its running as it is disconnected at the moment as bumper is removed, the reason i asked Uwe about the Ecu coding
regarding fan as i ve not heard from Dana, is as that the ecu coding has continous running, Engine 01 Bit 4 (23) 031 continously Fan installed
and has aircon, i had a vw caddy with wrong ecu coding was set for aircon which the van never had but that was running as soon as the ignition was On.
Just looking ahead while waiting for parts for other issues, as also coding issues for engine ecu with the same coding for Air con it is set for Bit 3 1A (02 Bidirectional Climate Control climatic installed) Which i think we should have 00 No Or Manual Climate Control installed) there are other options listed.

Engine 01 Bit 4 (23) 031 continously Fan installed
All (almost 100) scans of T5.1 (MY10-MY15) diesel engines in my collection are identical for this one - engine - byte 4 - value 23 = only 1 fan installed, only 1 electric water pump installed.

the same coding for Air con it is set for Bit 3 1A (02 Bidirectional Climate Control climatic installed
Based on the scans the byte 3 is "00" only for vans without AC. Vans with any AC (Climatic and Climatronic) have identical codings. Thus I believe the current coding is correct.
For the byte 3 only codings 00, 12, 1A exist. I don't know what's the difference between 12 and 1A (bit 3)
