Thanks for the updates. After revisiting the 01-Engine coding I'm reasonably confident 01114012232401080000 is correct but I wonder if that's rejected due to the climate/HVAC nature of that Byte combined with the fact that an actual 08-Auto HVAC communication issue exists. For example, that's very close to the AUX heat bit we were trying to turn off. Temp screen shot here:


Getting 08 back online is probably best but you may want to try coding 01-Engine in 2 steps:

1) 01114010232401080000
If accepted:
2) 01114012232401080000

The 2-step song and dance is firstly telling it there is no HVAC or AUX heat followed by configuring it to the value we want.

I'm not sure what to suggest next in regards to the communication issues but I would be tempted to remove/unplug both 08-Auto HVAC and 15-Airbags at this point to see if that improves the 04 status at all. If there is no improvement with 04 when 08, 15 and the 56 units are unplugged -and- there aren't any obvious wiring issues it may be worth checking to see if someone swapped it with the wrong part number. In that case, PL24 thinks this VIN uses 6Q0 959 654 D:

From what i see, one issue is that there is no communication to Steering Angle Sensor (G85). (04 as Dana already Pointed out)
Engine and ABS are unhappy.
Don't get confused by VCDS Reporing it as "unreachable" in Autoscan, this is always the Case with 2013 T5 G85

It is connected to Engine Can.
Check the T41 Connector at the Steering ( The whte L Shape Connector)
This Pins are Related to G85

2 - T41/2 Lenkwinkelgeber -G85- (CAN-Low)
3 - T41/3 Lenkwinkelgeber -G85- (CAN-High)
4 - T41/4 Lenkwinkelgeber -G85- (31)
5 - T41/5 Lenkwinkelgeber -G85- (30)

Check is Volage 30 and 15 are available first.

I have checked the G85 for power / Gnd , checked airbag module, checked ABS all good, we have power and Gnd locations where it should
be, all continuity checks were all good, but still no signal or comms and 04 G85 & 15 AIRBAG no contact with module to vcds
I also checked J519 Gnd

So than you are dealing with an Engine CAN Communication issue.
Probably a bad contact on one of the lot's Joints or a BAD Unit.
Unplugging 15 and 08 is and idea, but its a pain to reach 15 ....
Let me lookup in Shematic the Joints probably i see a place where to look, i have a compleete loom on my Table for debugging ....


If you look into the 2500 Pages Shematic PDF you need to look at CAN- und LIN-Bus-Vernetzung ab November 2012. (7L6)
its Page 1705 in the german PDF.

The bad and good think is that most of the Engine Can Signals join in the one Connection Points B383 and B390
And since a Lot is working, this connection can not be Bad.

So Unplugging 15 and 08 is and idea, lets see how it looks after that

Nevermind: nothing is Working on Engine CAN.
Even 01 is complaining of not having a Communication to Cluster or Gateway or BCM (Cluster is on its own CAN Bus, behind the gateway from Engine View)
So only Diagnosis Connection between Gateway and Engine and ABS is working.
But Diagnose is working better on a Disturbed Can than the Communication with lesser Timeouts betweeen the Modules.

Directly Connected to Engine can in Your T5 are:

- 01
- 03
- 04
- 08
- 15
- 19

09 19 and 61 are all together inside the BCM

01 and 03 are combined in Engine bay and than routed VIA connector T10d

Try and Remove 04 08 and 15 from the equasion and see if the Communication Errors in Engine to Cluster BCM and Getway disappear.

The BCM (with integrated gateway) could be Fauly, too and make all the Issues ....
A swap with a known working one could be a test.

I will leave the 01 ecu coding as the per the last scan log sent to you , because today i found the reason why the Relays 646 x3 & The fan pulsing.
so i think the coding is good this one 0111401A232401080000, the suggested one 01114012232401080000 was rejected as what i wrote in #33

So shall i leave the 08-Auto HVAC you suggest or do it, as the last scan says 08 status OK



I did a lot of work regarding Can - bus Voltage for Dash j285 etc ignition on approx 1.88v or/br Can -L pin 29, & approx 3.12v Can-H pin 28 or/vi ON the vehicle wiring still connected to the Dash j285 Resistance 65 ohms, The Dash instrument Cluster tested off the vehicle as looking for what modules
house the 120 ohm resistors , at pins T32/28 & T32/29 i was maybe expecting to see approx 120 ohms if the resistor was in there, I had 2.46 K,ohms
way over, yet on the vehicle connected it gave normal 65, ohms, i tried another unit as spare one the same reading, so who knows,

I checked the 01 Ecu disconnected 67,ohms, and connected to the vehicle i would of thought 120 ohm resistors would be in the 01 Ecu & the Bcm but i cant find any trace yet,
Airbag can bus as expected linked to Bcm j519, G85, & j234, If i use my breakout box i have chassis Gnd pin 4, signal Gnd pin 5, power pin 16,
yet for Can L pin 14 & Can H 6 they light up for a split second as i put the ignition on then nothing, i'm not sure at the moment if because some modules are off line so coding /adaption or Can bus issue, i will do the test you mention and a few other i have to do and let you know Thanks,

Hi Yes i have done continuity G85 Can H Can L T41/2 or/br T41/3 or/sw to J519 T73b/18 T73b/19 B383 B390, fuses SB2 SB24 T41/4 to Gnd 636
next i was thinking about unplugging modules, i will recheck and do the other stuff and report back, everything i have checked someone has been in there as i can see by the wiring, The 01 is brand new inc the j519 & j285, do you know what 2 modules house the 120 ohm resistors

you say PDF Nov 2012 (7L6 ) i dont have Pdf, i have Elsawin access to 7L6 & i have noticed as bus route linked powertrain B383 Can - H B390 L
what i did find when first working on the Can bus was a Group of wires CAN L & H joined together a bit ruff, connection or/br or/ sw Location THIS IS above the relay carrier on my drivers side uk & up above/ behind the J519 with integrated J533 Gateway , Can you confirm this is the location for B383 B390 on your complete loom, stop/ start vehicle type

It is supposed to be brand new i have seen the invoice as i had suspicious if at fault, i will unplug and see thanks

I did not meassure it, but from the Shematic of EDC17CP20 ECU i can Tell that inside ECU its 66,4 Ohmś between Can Hi and Lo.
And from my Tests on Table loom i can tell if you remove ECU from CAN than Engine can does not work, because ECU does Terminate on that End of bus.

From the Connector B of J519 its aprox 40 cm loom till B383 B390, so behind/above J519 sound right.

And from my Tests on Table loom i can tell if you remove ECU from CAN than Engine can does not work, because ECU does Terminate on that End of bus.

From the Connector B of J519 its aprox 40 cm loom till B383 B390, so behind/above J519 sound right.
I checked the Ecu 01 recently off the car and Resistance was approx 67 ohms so it looks like no 120 ohm in there, i thought ecu and Bcm but it does not seem they have any 120 resistor, I will be back to the van tomorrow to do the test, and let you know results
Intersting you say if you remove the 01 ecu from the loom then engine can does not work, if i do this and scan should i see no J623 COMMS ?
if i do resistance check at j623 Ecu connector pins T94/67 T94/68 i assume i will see resitance from maybe j104 & other modules on the same B383 B390
I did a 01 Ecu test today removed from the car vw passat 2016/17 and Ecu read 125 ohms, same for the J519 which is what i expected from the T5
they must be in the car some where, i tried so far Dash cluster, BCM, ECU,

Yes the group of wires there Can -H Can L someone has been there they were & at the moment left twisted together.
another strange thing is with my breakout box to OBD Can H Can L pin 6 & pin 14 only light up for a split second as the ignition is put on. then they go out,
the Gnd pin 4 & signal Gnd pin 5 show ok and the voltage pin 16 is ok,

i havent tried any other coing on 01 as i raced why the relays were clicking etc, I have been doing mainly net work stuff, you will see update when i reply to dnoerMann now

Today i went over the Checks for G85 T41/2 T41/3 Can L & Can H G85 Disconnected has Continuity to J519 T73b/ 18 & 19.
T41/4 G85 (31) Gnd from T41 to floor 636, is good, T41/5 (30) Has battery voltage, T41/6 (15 ) Is battery voltage ignition On good.
The G85 The connector removed tested from the harness connector Resistance 68 ohms, Ive not checked at the G85 Directly as it is stil on the vehicle.
also T41/4 (31 ) to T41/5 (30 ) Has battery voltage as expected.

I unplugged the HVAC 08, 04, & 15 The Hvac J255 connectors were very corroded Green,

The HVAC T20e/6 Can L or/br to B406 to Bcm T73b/21 or/br & T20e/5 Can -H or/gn to B397 to Bcm T73b/20 or/gn They have continuity,
I tried with the HVAC removed and at the harness connector T20e/6 T20e/5 to see if any resistance as it is linked to other modules on B406 & B397 AND THERE WAS NOTHING ? I tried from 200 ohms to 2o, M,ohms Here is a Full Scan with removed 04, 08, 15,
My breakout Box only has some function on 14 Can L nothing on 6 Can - H .

Since someone messed with the Can wiring, i guess, probably you need to take B383 B390 apart and step by step connect it together and see when what errors occurs.

Yes this van is a tricky One, I will check things out tomorrow, the bunch on B383 B390,,,, i have noticed every module some one has added connector in between the can H & Can low although done tidy enough someone has been trying to find the fault,

Exactly on my line of thoughts tomorrow is to do the O4 back But leave 08 & 15 OFF, then if no joy for errors to clear in 19, 00778 no comms.
i will then add all modules back connected and remove one at a time and also keep checking my Break out box for Can H & Can L comms as at the moment nothing on Can H ( 6 ) i still dont know where the 120 ohms resistors are, i assume the J255 & J301 Are the same unit, the reason i ask is
for fitting location of modules Page 26 climate control unit j255 / AC control module j301 The rear images for my one for the connector dont match 2010 on ,
But if i go into Workshop repair Guide i see it under Air conditioning,, 87 Air coditioner operating and display for manually regulated air conditioning system 2010 onwards you then have menu pin assignment & that is my unit, and on there it says On Block A pins Can L 7 & Can H 8 I check on the unit for any resistance even turned the control knob there was nothing,, I notice on the wiring diagram it has pin 5 & 6 which if i look at the harness connector it
does seem like Pin 5 & 6, either way on the item 255/301 i tried pins 5 & 6 still nothing, i will let you know tomorrows findings Thanks for your suggestions. i will also check

Ok update, i did several checks today, first i did 04 Connected leave 08 & 15 disconnected & faults still there inc 00778.
Next icluding 15 Connected, HVAC Not Connected, G85/04 Connected did a delete rescanned and same 3 faults in 19 ,
01336 - Company Data Bus for Comfort System 004 - No Signal/Communication
00778 - Steering Angle Sensor (G85) 004 - No Signal/Communication
01321 - Control Module for Airbags (J234) 004 - No Signal/Communication
Did a delete, faults are straight back.

Next removed 04 G85 The same 3 faults in 19 Gateway,
Next with hvac connected G85 not connected rescan Same 3 faults in gateway 19 do a delete faults straight back
then Connect 04 still the same faults in 19,

Next with all modules connected I Removed the ABS connector & rescanned after delete and 04-Steering Angle -- Status: Cannot be reached 1100
And in 19 we still have 00778

Next rescan with 01 Ecu And ABS Disconnected ,, Delete faults and Rescan 04-Steering Angle -- Status: OK 0000
and in 19 there is No 00778, So then i Reconnected the ABS the 01 Ecu is still NOT connected Rescanned and the faults in 19 are Back 00778 / 01321 etc

Hehe don´t get fooled by VCDS :)

After Disconnecting the ECU, the Compleete Engine Can is not working.
And theirfor in 19 you do not get for every ECU Errors, but you get:
01312 - Powertrain Data Bus
004 - No Signal/Communication

So only VCDS does have a Bug or Feature in Autoscan which in this Case lists all to which is no Connection as OK.

See: 01 and 03, too, are disconnected and Still are OK :)

01-Engine -- Status: OK 0000
03-ABS Brakes -- Status: OK 0000
04-Steering Angle -- Status: OK 0000

Probably @Dana or @Uwe can explain this, feature or fix it in VCDS :)

Just another Test:
- What do you measure of resistance between CAN-H and CAN-L when ignition is off (wait 60 Seconds after off).
- On my 2013 T5 with everythig possible retrofitted on engine can, i get 59 Ohm
- In My Table Setup with 01 03 09 15 i get 63 Ohm

I don't think that's a bug. The Gateway thinks it was able to talk to these modules, but for some reason, VCDS cannot. I'm not sure how real-time that Gateway status is. In other words, was the Gateway really able to talk to those modules at the time VCDS wasn't? Check MVBs 125 and 126 in the GW.

The vehicle is clearly broken somehow as evidenced by the faults in the Gateway.

Hi I did 126 recently i will take a look at 125 ABS The 126 I still have a screen shot of it which is Can Powertrain 126 field instrument cluster
has 1, Gateway 1, immo 1, correct me if i'm wrong does 1 mean OK & 0 not ok, i will check 125 mvb

Yes i noticed with Ecu 01 not connected status OK, regarding the Can H & Can L i have notes here with ABS disconneted , using just the harness connetion point for CAN i have 62.3 ohms, at Abs and The ecu 01 disconnected i have at the harness 62, ohms and just checking my notes,, at the ecu 67,ohms
where are you measuring from for Engine Can is it at the ecu connected or on the harness pins ecu disconnected
you say In My Table Setup with 01 03 09 15 i get 63 Ohm is that with them connected and where are you then measuring from

There is a lot of stuff going thru the j623 and the Abs 104 Plenty of No comms, But finding it,

I thought all Vw starting 2012 were MQB but maybe commercial vehicles (Vans ) are not , I have a bench loom i could connect J519, and most
modules to it except for some Ecu's as not all MQB engines are the same, my J519 is different to the T5 and i have separate Gateway ,
but i know this loom is good, this van it could be the Loom, it could be Module/s so i cant test on my loom,

I think MQB started in MY 2013, but the Transporters have always been a bit different and not on the same upgrade cycle. In fact, the electronics in this one most resemble a PQ25 Polo.
