Power Seat Button Test?

I retrofitted power/heated/memory seats into my MK4 Jetta a couple years ago. Unfortunately, the driver's seat keeps going dead every few months.

VCDS intermittently shows a code for the memory module, but I am now (potentially) on my 4th module if it needs to be replaced.

As a troubleshooting step, I was wondering if there was a way via VCDS to test the functionality of the button panel on the driver's seat as you can do with the stalks and pedals.

Here are back to back scans, the 2nd one after clearing the codes. Some of the codes in the 1st scan were after ignition repair due to someone trying to steal my car:

I believe your seat memory module should should show up at address 36, but I don't see it in either of those scans. Please check through any older scans you've got to see if it ever did show up anywhere.

I do see Address 36 in some older logs. Is it safe to say the memory module is probably toast?

I am just so confused why they might keep dying. I had a pro wiring guy at a car stereo shop help me originally, and we used a Kufatec retrofit harness made just for this mod. After the first memory module died, we realized we didn't install a thermal fuse that's part of OEM wiring, but we fixed that (and, I checked the other fuse too.) The passenger seat works fine, but I don't think it relies on the memory module. I think it's simpler and is just wired for heat and power.

I guess I will try another module, and then look for any frayed wires or damaged connections.

So there switch positions and such can be seen in the MVBs of that module, but that would assume the module talks, which it doesn't seem to at the moment. Still, do try going directly to it to see if it does anything:

Is it safe to say the memory module is probably toast?

I'm not a fan of condemning any module until all other possibilities have been eliminated. Check power(s) and ground(s). Check the other connections, especially CAN and K-Line. Do all this at the module itself.

If your'e on the third module already, I really wonder what might be causing them to fail. Have you opened up any of the failed ones to see if there's anything obvious that caused the failures?

Sadly, my car was briefly stolen a few weeks ago. Luckily, it was recovered about 1 week later (thank you immoblizer!) but a box of old parts, including the other seat modules, was taken. My VCDS cable was also stolen, which was the main monetary loss other than needing to have the ignition repaired. So, I don't have the other modules to inspect. I just got my replacement VCDS cable today, so I was finally able to start digging into this again.

I have a week-long appointment scheduled with my wiring guy to address a few projects, but it's not until early January. We're going to dig into the seat to see if we can find any smoking guns. I may also just suck it up and buy a new seat module because the ones I have been getting have been used via eBay. But, I don't want to do that until we rule out anything that may be killing them. I am a little worried, though, because I have a couple retrofits that use that module, so in theory, the root cause might not be in the seat itself. I also have added power-folding/heated/memory/auto-dimming sideview mirrors.
