I have retrofitted ACC and LKA, both of which are fully functional now. I have replaced the old steering wheel buttons for the ones with ACC and driver assistance. The controls for ACC such as speed and follow distance adjustment work, along with all the other buttons, except for the driver assist button.

It's going to be in the coding for the MFSW buttons, which is a slave module of the gateway (19), here...

Code:
Multifunction steering wheel control module:
   Subsystem 2 - Part No SW: 5G0 959 442 AB HW: 5G0 959 442 AB Labels: 3C8-959-537.CLB
   Component: E221__MFL-DC1 H17 0052
   Serial number: 33180001093480031439
   Coding: 2C0000

Select module 19 then long coding and then in the drop down where it shows gateway select the MFSW module. Worth noting VCDS doesn't have descriptions for the bits in there and will give you a warning not to change anything. So you will have to trial and error until you get the button working... Unless someone that sees this post has those same buttons and posts their scan for reference.

Obviously you have a record of your current coding in the scan you posted, but just go one bit at a time. And a single change might cause several faults to pop up. It may require you to revert the change, clear faults and/or cycle ignition to get rid of them.

Supposedly:

This Control Module does NOT support Coding. The displayed Coding reflects the currently installed Hardware and cannot be changed!

However, I can't personally vouch for that.

I've tried a bunch of coding values and none of them really seem to be changing anything. Could the reason this isn't working is that I took the original pair of MFSW buttons, unplugged only the left side and replaced with with the new buttons?

Can you post an adamap from your gateway 19 module? VCDS -> Applications -> Control module map, choose 19 as module and output as csv.

The steering wheel variant coding is in gateway adaptations. The button is enabled or disabled there as far as I know.

Edit : Your gateway is quite "old" or earlier software. It could be that it does not even support the driver assist button on the steering wheel. On earlier cars the button is on the tip of the left stalk.

I can upload an adaptation map later, but I already took a look at the options for the MFSW variant and the only options were CCS, ACC, low-line (?) and I think one more option that I can’t remember. I tried changing the value of that and still nothing worked.

I have also noticed that in the A5 module I believe there is a long coding option for “driver assistance button” which I have tried. The only thing that does is occasionally give me a “driver assistance button malfunction “ fault and doesn’t allow the button to be used.

On 3Q0 gateways there's one configuration option for Steering wheel. This one :
SFT271921-ENG262857-Multifunction steering wheel control module-Kombi_02_gueltig,active ,3

I'm of course not 100% but I have my suspicions that this is the one that tells to the car if there's a kombi or multifunction button installed. I checked one car 2019 GTI Rabbit which has ACC and it had this one active.

Are you sure the new button (not changing the mfsw electronics) you mounted is enough?

Not sure if this will help you, but here it goes.

This AAC SWAP retrofit has been on my to-do list since 2019. Did you pay someone to enable the ACC SWAP code for your vehicle? I have a 2019 MK7.5 GTI NAR with the radar sensor factory installed, but the SWAP function is disabled since it is a Rabbit Edition model. My GTI also lacks the needed AAC button set from the factory - which I will install when ready.

Questions:
Are you sure you retrofitted the correct steering wheel buttons? Reading your post, and to my understanding - you only replaced the left-side buttons. From all the research I've done, this modification requires both sets of left and right buttons to be replaced (assuming yours came as a set?).

My observation:
You have a non-GTI/R/GTE/GTD steering wheel. Do your buttons come wired together as one set, or can they be replaced individually/have individual connectors? If not, did you splice the new steering wheel buttons into the existing wire harness?

For example: For me to use ACC in my GTI (assuming the SWAP function code is activated), I need to have the steering wheel button set 5G0-959-442-N installed.

Has anyone looked at the MFSW slave module coding using ODIS? I understand that's off topic for this forum but hopefully it's okay since the long-cofing helper doesn't have descriptors for these bits anyway.

I have the MK8 wheel retrofitted in my MK7 and was told the "view" button on the new steering wheel could not be made to work. Turns out it could... and it was in the long coding for the MFSW module. Just went through enabling and disabling one bit at a time and seeing what happened. I was in the parking lot at work so I didn't make notes like I should have.

To complicate things, there are combinations of bits that allow certain things to work... dependencies if you will. I don't remember which, but there are two bits that allow the ACC button to work on the MK8 wheel. If either one of them was unchecked I lost that function.

It would be nice if you'd at least post the coding that works.

I will for sure, I broke the view button again when I enabled the heated wheel button and disabled the travel assist button 😁. Soon as I get it all working I will post.

I unscrewed the left side back panel, and then the connector comes out. I bought one side of the buttons on eBay and just replaced the left side only. Here's some pictures that I took to document the process.

I was able to take a look at the MFSW slave module in ODIS, but unfortunately it's not of much help. It provided no plain text coding and just said to refer to the binary coding. Not sure what my next steps are, but for now I'll maybe take a look at some scans of newer cars and cross reference. Any input would be greatly appreciated.

Did you try the gateway adaptation channel I suggested?

And most probably the issue is with your gateway, it does not support the new button. I don’t think you will have any changes no matter what coding you put to mfsw slave module.

On my previous post there’s a link to GTI Rabbit which should have those buttons on steering wheel. Try the coding from there?

I did try it, but I believe the issue is that I need to change both sides of the MFSW buttons. The phone button on mine activates voice control, and on newer models the voice button replaces the voice button. But still that wouldn’t explain why the driver assist button isn’t doing anything.

yes, usually you change both if either one is not the same as original.

Try 2DFFFF as coding for the MFL sub module in gateway.

However, my finger points to your gateway.

I don't have any actual contributions but adding to @downtime's suggestion/suspicion in posts #5 and #7 here my E-golf has the CNL factory button with left stalk driver assist. Not the best quality photo but you should be able to zoom:

Full maps and scans are located here in the event they add any clarity:
