Hi i have vcds HEX + CAN, today i scanned a 2020 t5/t6 Transporter and it says i need to udate to a different interface, why is this,
is for DOIP as some vehicles now using that and some scanners cant communicate,

The HEX+CAN interface was state-of-the-art when it was introduced in 2004. It had a whole 16 kB of room for code, and 1 kB of RAM. At the time, that seemed like plenty, but 11-12 years later, VAG introduced new addressing modes, and the code space in the HEX+CAN was full. In addition, some UDS modules have adaptation channels that are too big for the HEX+CAN to buffer properly. We stopped selling HEX+CANs at the end of 2016 and replaced it with something more modern / more capable. It can be a problem on some MY 2016 and newer cars, and is not suitable at all for MY 2019 or newer.

ok UWE thanks for the info,, i spoke to Gendan in the uk today & asked if VCDS were going to take the next step like top end scanner
doing programming read skc mac etc change vin , if changing replacement modules DONA items, and he said you were vcds doing some of these
features to come next year, can you explain what is to come for Vag

No, we we will not make VCDS into a tool that can be used to steal cars or falsify their electronic identity.

What we are working on is an proper relationship with VAG for SFD access in real time.

Can you explain more of what VCDS will be able to do for Vag, it sounds like no reading of SK etc, Topend scanners are already for some time supporting change vin etc, NOT FOR STEALING , But for when Ecu's or other modules screw up as not everyone can afford to pay stupid prices for new, especially depending on the year of the Vehicle, the poit is also Vag immob is easily by passed, so you dont need Topend scanners to steel Vehicles, IMMOB is just a deterrent, And to quote VCDS if you do have SKC you can use VCDS to do the job ? It is a everyday problem modules needing replacement and matching, The reason i ask i'm looking to spend a few K on a Topend scanner but hearing VCDS were going to update to more
special functions i thought i would wait and buy VCDS but it sounds like the upgrade will be much the same as Now. good tool for most functions
except when your in the shit with modules that need further access programmers to fix the issues , like VVDI2

Yes, that was the case up to about 2004 model years. After that, we made it clear that the tool could not do Immo iV and beyond. AND to the best of our knowledge, nor can any other aftermarket tool. You have read our Immo page, no? http://wiki.ross-tech.com/wiki/index.php/Immobilizer

Why do you blame us for VAG's methods? There are no other tools that can do this. The only other sanctioned legal tool that we know of for doing the shit you mentioned is the factory tool - ODIS running on their hardware or a J2534 pass through tool - all starting at big dollars with big subscription fees.

So share with the community all the tools you know of that can actually do as you say. We'd sure like to know about those so we might go find out what they did to legally get the right to do these things.

I'm not intersted in the rip of saga, i know there is kit out there for doing replacment modules, do your own research if you are interested, i have my
own opinions and i have seen these tools in use, no tool does all, it is all about kit & Cost and obviously Knowledge, & not just for Vag,
I ask a simple question and the reply suggesting i want a tool for stealing, What a f cheek, everyone i spoke to regarding the reply from UWE said the same suggestion,

What you are failing to handertend is the vvdi2,AVdi etc are are locksmith tools...Good for making keys!
Good look trying to replace modules other than some clusters and EDC 17 ECus:banghead:

VVDI can't even read most EDC16U34 Mac correctly and support doesn't give a shit :popcorn:

That's great to hear Uwe, even if some sort of vetting process is necessary (similar to ODIS for example) ; I would have no problem sharing that information with RT/VAG and I'd bet may others would agree to it as well. Perhaps offering that to VAG would help RT's request to them as well (?) Looking forward to the "news". :thumbs:

No tool does it it all, whether Clone or original and some even then no joy as vw closed to 3rd party's, here is a link someone trying to get there vehicle to run based on a Dona Module, i know in the new year VCDS is making big gains i have been informed by a reliable source that is why i first set this question in motion, Big cheque have changed hands to speak and discussions so watch this space, https://forums.ross-tech.com/index.php?threads/13725/ . I have a bought a 2.5k scanner covers most manufactures, does Diagnostics immobiliser / keys ( Locksmith ? ) but does not always work out, so you need other tools all money if you want to play with the big Boys, But VCDS is for the money very good , future improvements will help make it even better,

Regarding you say Support doesent give a shit, Depends on who you buy from, and not always cheaper somewhere else same product is best.
and myself even clone tools i have a electronic engineer who looks at the circuit PCB and replaces the crap components for quality items so the tool
is more stable and reliable, The whole idea is to get the job done and If user friendly all the better other wise whats the point.
