Hi,

I was recently gifted a 2012 Passat that had an issue with its transmission control module. I got a replacement and have been attempting to perform the basic settings but get stuck at error code 255 | 20 | 0.

The TCM in this car isn't complaining about anything (no fault codes). Is there a functional problem with it?

Do you have a scan from before replacing the TCM?

Unfortunately, I don't have a previous scan. Haven't tried moving it from it's current position seeing as the basic settings weren't completed. Will attempt it shortly and update.

Update
Any attempt to place the car in drive results a loud thump sound accompanied by a intense rattle but the car doesn't move. It goes into reverse smoothly and moves. Updates scan after attempting below:-

Based on this, it would seem I have to replace the clutch.

My values for 95.1 is 1.6mm and 97.1 3.0mm. (definitely not greater than 2mm); 115.1 is 3.6mm and 117.1 is at 1.8 (again less than 2mm). Will update the thread after I get the replacement done.

SW 6201 doesn't seem to be the right DQ200 software for the 1.4 TSI CAXA on a Passat B7. Is the gearbox changed previously to a wrong gearbox? You can change the clutch parts and then reattempt basic settings but if the software is for another engine, the clutch may not work as intended from the factory and wear out prematurtely.

Can you look at TCU's MVB 041 - what is the full parameter set name or at least the last four characters from it? It should be either "cjXG", "cj9w", "cjE7", "cjJ5" or "cjR5". If the first two letter are not "cj", then it's definetly the wrong software. It can be flashed to correct software via ODIS-E. If you can, look up the real gearbox code on the gearbox - should be either NBA, NQK, NTZ or PMS.

OJS3 is not correct for NQK box and 1.4 TSI CAXA. This firmware is meant for Chinese market DQ200 boxes PRB, PLK, NTP, PFD, NDB, NRQ with 1.4 TSI CFBA engine.

Have someone with ODIS-E flash it to "cjXG" series firmware version 6563 (without coasting mode) or 6564 (with coasting mode) and then try to perform basic settings with ODIS-S while they're at it :) If the clutches are worn, it probably still won't work but can't hurt to try.
