Service reminder won't hide after reset - help?

Hi - I'm wanting to reset the service reminder on my Mk7 Golf R so that it only shows me a warning when I get close to the reminder mileage (e.g. maybe 500Kms before).

I'm sure it used to do this, but now when I reset it to the desired interval (5,000 km), it shows the "Oil Change in 5,000 Kms" warning every time I start the car, even if I change the Warning channel to "disabled". (yes, I know 5,000 km is pretty frequent, but it gets a hard life ;-)

It also shows in the Car screen on the infotainment as if it is a fault which is a pain.

I did try changing "IDE00512-ESI: minimum value km-driving distance/inspection" to 4,500 but that seemed to have no effect.

Any help is appreciated...

Working it through, I wonder if I have the SIA and FIX values reversed.

Is the SIA “maximum” a hard limit for service, while the FIX inspection mileage needs to be sooner?

If so, then I’ll try swapping SIA: Max dist to service with FIX: Max dist to service and see what happens. I’ll report back in case this is useful to someone else.

Yeah, but you changed the interval to a value that the cluster doesn't "approve of". A better approach might be to set it to one the cluster approves of and then also crank up the "Distance Since" value to leave you the desired distance remaining.

Yes, if 15,000 is the "correct" value for your car/cluster, that's what I would suggest.

Well I managed to get the Golf R working, bit not sure how. I set the max and min values to be outside the range set for SIA and FIX distances and then chose reset for ESI:resetting ESI. It then hid the warning message - all good.

I then tried it on my wife’s car - a Golf GTE and couldn’t get rid of it by any means. I tried going to a factory standard 15000 kms and upping the kms travelled and also set the max and min values outside of the range as for the Golf R. No luck, still a message.

One thing I did learn was that the SIA:max distance and max time = “oil change”, while FIX:max distance and max time = “inspection”.

Oh well - it bothers me more than my wife, so at least I got rid of the most annoying one!

So... I did some more experimenting and research. I also found a VW Internal Training document. Some interesting stuff.

The module does some internal checks, and as you said, Uwe it doesn't like it when non-standard values are used, either throwing a "Basic Settings missing" fault code or displaying the reminder at inconsistent times.

Here's a summary for anyone who might find it useful... let me know if I've got anything wrong...

1. Mode and Reset

Set "IDE00515-ESI: oil quality" to "Poor" for fixed intervals (FIX/SIA), or "Good" for variable intervals (SIE/ESI).
Set "IDE00342-ESI: Resetting ESI" to "no warning" to clear reminder.

2. Set Fixed Distance and Time:

To set "Oil change service in X km and Y days" message.

Code:

IDE01153-SIA: maximum value of distance to service = desired distance
IDE01154-SIA: maximum value of time to service = desired days

To set "Inspection in X km and Y days"

Code:

IDE03349-FIX:Max. distance driven until next mileage-related inspection = desired distance
IDE03350-FIX: Maximum time until next time-dependent inspection = desired days

Note: entering values that are too unusual can throw a "Basic Settings missing" fault code e.g. when I put 547 in time. Mostly seems fine if you stick to 365 for the days - 8,000 kms, for example works.

3. Notifications

The training doc indicates that the warning should appear 3,000 kms before service is due (or 2,000 for Audi - not sure why). It also appears based on numbers of days prior based on:

The standard Service Interval Extension range for petrol engines is 15,000 - 30,000kms and 1-2 years. This is stored in:

IDE00512-ESI: minimum value km-driving distance/inspection = 15,000
IDE00513-ESI: maximum value km-driving distance/inspection = 30,000
IDE00827-ESI: minimum value of time between inspections = 365
IDE00514-ESI: maximum value of time between inspections. = 730

Best to leave these as standard as changing these to other values can make the reminder message pop up at weird times and sometimes throws the "Basic Settings missing" fault code.

5. Manual Reset button forces FIXed Intervals

If you do a reset from the dashboard button rather than using VCDS/ODIS then it "automatically sets a fixed interval of 1 year/15,000km". I think it also activates fixed rather than variable intervals.

6. Distance/Time Travelled - auto update

These adaptations are updated as you travel and time elapses. The IDE00510 tracks every km and the IDE03351 updates every 100 kms. Times are in days.

IDE03351-FIX: Distance covered since last mileage-dependent inspection
IDE03352-FIX: Time since last time-dependent inspection

Set these to zero to reset the service tracking.

… but still the Golf GTE will not hide the reminder. Line by line admap comparison and its identical… I’m done.
