VCDS Hex-V2 Auto Scan Issue

I went to run a scan this morning and while the VCDS recognises the cable and shows green lights I could not get any scan results. It will not allow me to save, copy or print the results. The only option under Results is clear.
The text reads:

Where do a start to problem solve this?

Was your ignition on?

If so, check pin 7 of the OBD-II connector. Is it possible there's an issue with the contact there? If that looks good, check continuity from there to the corresponding pin of at least one of the control modules in your car.
