What is Long Coding?

A basic question, and is there any guide about the subject? I understand I need to use 'Long-Coding' to code a reversing camera, so I need some guidance.

If you're going to retrofit a back-up camera, please start a new thread in the Retrofits section, and post an Auto-Scan of the car in its stock condition, before installing or changing anything. Also state what kind of camera you're looking to fit to the car, its provenance and part number.
