Can you tell by the pic that there is an oring in there?? When I pulled the old sensor it was a struggle and when it was out the oring was still in the housing. I got a long screwdriver to pry it out and I thought it flew out because I couldn't see it anymore. When I felt around inside the tube it felt clean and concave at the base. Today when I tried to get it in with better access having the intake tube off I still couldn't get it. I stuck my finger straight in the hole and an oring stuck to me!!!

I GOT IT! I GOT IT!

I think OP did really well and should be commended, especially for not giving up.
Being stranded without a car for a week (having to borrow one) because your DIY attempt seems to be turning into a disaster puts a lot of pressure on an inexperienced DIY-er (especially if the missus is around :D ).
Hindsight is always 20/20, I'm sure next time he'll see that O-ring without even opening the hood.

Thank you for the kind words. I felt about 2 inches tall when I stuck my finger in and an O-ring jumped on it! Funny how the guys that could see it didn't say anything while I was struggling with it....Now onto the reason I replaced it. I'm trying to narrow down a random no start.
