Is this a direct swap with no coding? with just basic settings/angle sensor calibration required?

i'm having a bit of trouble getting some abs lights to bugger off as it wont let me do 060 in the abs module for the steering calibration.

The steering rack for a Mk6 GTI and R are probably physically the same but might differ in their "characteristic curve" - amounts of steering assistance at various speeds. Current curve "Kl. 184" might not be right for a R. If you have prior autoscans, you can compare. If you'd like the correct curve flashed, then find someone with access to the factory tool ODIS.

Those faults you have are nothing special - steering angle sensor G85 always needs to have basic settings done after a rack swap.

It's also saying there is no communication with the Angle Sensor too. They may have sensors in different locations like some of the older models???

Right, 44 appears to be Adapted incorrectly which is what @NZDubNurd was pointing at. I've got a wall of text here that may help:

Always best to read the data from the old unit but I think you need the following:

Channel 003 Driver Steering Recommendation (DSR):
2 = Driver Steering Recommendation (DSR) active (ESP MK60EC1 & MK60 AWD/4X4)

Channel 004 Installation Park Steer Assist:
2 = Park Steer Assist (PR-7X0/7X1/7X2) NOT installed

Channel 006 Installation Lane Assist:
0 = Lane Assist (PR-7Y0) NOT installed

Channel 008 Installation Adaptive/Dynamic Chassis Control (DCC):
0 = Adaptive/Dynamic Chassis Control (PR-2H0) NOT installed

Channel 009 Steering Angle Sensor
0 = Internal Steering Angle Sensor active

Problem is, this car uses the extremely rare PR-Code QZ0 Speed-sensitive power steering (Servotronic) w/ limited steering lift mechanism) rather than 1N1 or 1N3 so if the characteristic curves are off I don't believe you will be able to solve this with VCDS.

I would make sure the old rack was NOT one of those special 5N part numbers and also verify that address 16 wasn't replaced or coded incorrectly.

The car before had no lane change, park assist etc before..

i'm going to find a level parking lot to have a go at this all again. car sits on a hill at home and starts smoking a buttload when on a slant.

flat surface carpark and wheel full right to left seemed to make it accept calibration.

now to pull apart the back boot area to change this broken parking chime..
