I retrofit the folding mirrors on my 7.5 Golf R a few months ago and unchecked "Door entry lights inactive when mirrors folded", which I prefer, because the puddle lights will turn on immediately instead of waiting 5 seconds for the mirrors to unfold, and it looks cool seeing the light beam move. But, one thing I don't like is how the puddle lights come on even when the mirrors will never unfold. For example, if I open only the trunk and/or only the passenger's front door (my car has keyless entry), the mirrors don't unfold and never will, but the puddle lights still come on pointlessly. The mirrors only unfold if I unlock the driver's door (or press unlock with the actual key fob, which I rarely do). I'm wondering if there's an adaptation/coding to make it so that the puddle lights will only come on as soon as I unlock the driver's door. No waiting for the mirrors to unfold, and no turning on when only the trunk/passenger door is opened.
I'm also wondering if there's a way to turn them off manually? If I'm parked in a dark area and one of my doors are open (for example, if working on my car in a closed garage), the puddle lights just stay on the whole time. Turning off the headlights, turning the dimmer switch all the way down, nor disabling the interior lights will turn off the puddle lights, they just stay on until after ~15 minutes they finally turn off automatically. I understand that this is where the "door entry lights inactive when mirrors folded" might come into play.. It really seems like the puddle lights were only designed for models without keyless access in mind. If I unlock the car with the key, I do it seconds before I approach the car, so the mirrors would already be unfolded and puddle lights turned on by the time I walk up to it. With keyless access, the way I want it to work makes much more sense.
