Version of VCDS?
Type of interface cable/lead?
What are the exact results when you do [Options] -> [Test] with everything plugged in?

Sounds like the fuse supplying power to the OBD-II port is blown.

Fuses SC4 and SC13 are for the OBD port, located in the driver side dashboard fusebox.

Dumb question time - does the B7 CC actually have a CAN Gateway?

None of the B7 A4's I've owned had a CAN Gateway, you had to manually select the platform type to do an Auto-Scan.

You're mistaking the Passat CC, and more particularly the facelift (just) CC for an Audi A4 :)

I did say it was a dumb question

Just seems strange that both are described as a B7 but are fundamentally different, but then VAG have always done strange things :D

Things got a bit out-of-synch. The "B7" A4 really should have been referred to as a B6.5. I mean it shared the same platform and even chassis code (8E) as the B6.

And of course the B6 and on Passats have a transverse drivetrain, whereas the A4s have always been longitudinal. So yes, fundamentally different.
