2015 S8 Manifold stuck

Got this S8 in and fault is showing the manifold flaps stuck closed on bank 2. Ran some tests and shows no movement on bank 2 flaps so assuming that the vacuum unit needs attending to or replacing. Problem is that they are buried deep down below the manifold by the chassis legs and can see anyway of getting to these except for dropping the engine. unless someone knows of a better way and can advise..

The AWD fault is a duff module.

Are you referring to the intake (top of engine) manifold ? Or, the exhaust manifold...... " buried deep down below the manifold by the chassis legs" ?

I've had some experience with my 2009 S5 B8 intake manifold ; electric motors operate the flaps inside the intake manifold ; yours I realize are vacuum. Typically, the plastic flaps within each air runner fracture somewhere on the common axle rod and the flap, or pieces of it, fall down further into the intake manifold. There is another set of "air tumbler valves" (near the intake ports of the head) and the pieces of plastic block these air tumbler valves and prevent them from operating properly, thus registering the fault code. Some pieces may get past this air tumbler system and you will find those pieces in/near the intake ports / valves of the head!

B8 engine is different to this version on the S8/R8 S6/RS6/7 models. The intake manifolds are the ones buried deep down by the legs and exhaust is in the 'V'. Then they managed to put the vacuum units below the manifold just to make sure you cant get to them never mind see them.

Either a vacuum line, vacuum solenoid or intake itself is no good. Check vacuum supply first.

Tried a used 4wd module but no joy coding it back to the car. ODIS online could not re parameterise it. I thought a used module should have worked ok?

Vac lines ans supply all test out ok.

If one bank move but the other does not I would assume a vacuum leak perhaps or a broken flap/sensor.

Plan is to inspect the manifold and replace the sensor and vac unit using the repair kit audi sell, problem is getting access to the manifold without dropping or lowering the engine.

Well awd module was replaced, tried a used one and ODIS could not reparamatise it. Fitted a brand new one and was a pain readapting it to the car. Had to re input the HEX values directly stamped on the diff for it to work.

Doubtful as most vacuum systems have a check valve built in. So no I don't think you'd have any additional codes not unless a massive vacuum leak from intake tract or other area was found separate from the vacuum hoses and solenoids. However if that was the case you would have lean codes and air intake system leak codes stored. You could rev it up above 3 grand and see if that flap sensor is seeing the percentage change or not.

Thanks. Tried the 3k rev and bank 2 shows nothing on movement so im thinking its either vac unit, solenoid or potentiometer; all of which are fitted to the manifold :-(

I know space is tight in that sucker. But best bet would be to disconnect vacuum line at runner and hook up a vacuum gauge to see if you have vacuum at the line. IIRC both runners are on the same vacuum solenoid. So to be it sound like either a faulty intake runner, wiring issue for runner postion sensor, or maybe broken line at runner.

What was the end result? I'm dealing with the exact same issue 2013 S6

actuator moves freely and holds vacuum fine. Cant find any leaks in the lines last thing i can think of is G336 the potentiometer
