I have a 2006 VW Golf 5. The brake pressure sensor in the ABS unit has failed, and unfortunately, I'm unable to get the appropriate ABS unit. The part number of the unit is 1K0 614 517 AC. Is there a unit with a compatible part number?

So I finally got one off eBay with the required part number. Got it re-coded, and did the necessary adaptations but it's reporting these error codes:
01279 - Longitudinal Acceleration Sensor (G251)
005 - No or Incorrect Basic Setting / Adaptation
00493 - ESP-Sensor Unit (G419)
014 - Defective
My car is not AWD, so the G251 does not apply. The G419 was not defective before the change of the ABS unit. Besides, I did a successful adaptation of the Lateral Acceleration Sensor (G200) which like the G251 is an integral component of the G419 (supposedly defective). The Brake Pressure Sensor (G201) which was the cause of the change has now been addressed by the newly installed unit. No lights are showing on the cluster. So what's the reason for the G251 and G491 codes?

Well, one possibility is that the (presumably used) module you bought on fleaBay is NFG.

Another possibility is that the ESP Sensor Unit really has failed, or that there's some kind of wiring issue between it and the ABS module?

For the moment I'll support your first suggestion. Maybe, there's ESP circuit failure in the ebay ABS.

Regarding your second suggestion, I just wonder why the ESP unit should suddenly fail. It was good with the old ABS. If there was some wiring issue with it and the ABS, I think it should have so reported (implausible signal or something of sorts).
Since there are no lights on the cluster, I guess I'll live and let live.

PS. In the videos I've watched I notice that the coding reads 0s when another unit is installed until it's re-coded. In my case, the old code was present till I inserted mine. Would it have been necessary to have deleted the old code before inserting mine? Or would it be that this difference is explained by the fact that my system is of the short code type and not the long type that's common on YouTube?

It's generally not possible to "delete" coding. It can usually be changed, and possibly even changed to all zeros or something like that, but there's no "delete" function, so no, just putting in the coding that matches your previous module should be fine.
