Hi Folks,

I'm thinking about removing the A/C system from my 2003 Golf TDI.

I can get an accessory bracket from a Mk4 TDI that didn't have A/C, and I can get the power steering lines from a Non-A/C TDI, but I'm curious about any issues there may be electrically, or with my climate control?

Can I simply unplug the electrical connections and dead-end them? Remove fuses, etc.

Will this create any issues with the rest of the climate control system?

Thanks,
Rem

I would expect that car to have manual HVAC controls, not a "Climate Control". There were very few Mk.4 chassis cars sold in the NAR region that had "Climate Control", and I can't imagine a car described as a "Plain-Jane Golf" having it. Hence I'd expect very few (if any issues) with an A/C delete.

Yes...sorry, just my wording is bad. It is a Plain Jane Golf, with manual HVAC controls....same as all (most) of them.

I just don't want to run into any errors or problems if I remove it, that's all.

Lots and lots of TDI Mk4's being parted out around here, so I'll just look for one without A/C to get the factory accessory bracket off of it.

It will not.

In the USA in Nazi NY

A car that came with AC is required to have it and operational, because it is used as a safety inspection requirement, for aid in defrosting the windows.

I would refrain from removal and simply just not switch the AC ON.......... considering the fact that maybe depending on the day and the other occupants may in fact want it on.

Perhaps in NY State, but certainly not in most of the other, free(er) states.

Another reason not to live in Nazi York. :p

We don't require it here for any type of car inspections....at least not in my end of the world. The care about tires, brakes, lights, wipers, and horn...but they never lift the hood for anything.

My A/C doesn't work...and I'd never use it enough to warrant fixing it...unless I run out of other things to fix...then we'll see...lol.

Thans,

Canadians.

:D

Haha...touche!!

And I'm further south than many northern points of the US...(east of Maine).

However, 85 is what we call blistering heat around here (@ 90% humidity;).

People will complain about the heat at 85...

I'd be quite content if it was 70 degrees all year long...lol.

If I lived in one of the bigger smog and traffic infested cities...then yes, I believe I'd want my A/C to work properly.
Where I drive...the window down works just fine;).

Thanks folks!!

Well get the hacksaw out......I recommend the " Zebra " tapered teeth blade for starting cuts.
