Been on the hunt for a dq500 for a while for the golf r, have found a whole Q3RS for sale. now thinking i can swap out everything and score an extra cylinder and some more giggles

whats involved with this swap? ive seen 2016 rs3 being used. but these two cars share the same PQ35 platform, will it be more straight forward than the later models being used elsewhere?

RSQ3 is MQB. The CAN messaging, immo scheme etc are all different to PQ.
The only way I think you'd get this to work is to swap the whole donor car's electrics (cluster, BCM, EPB, ESCL, ABS, Haldex etc etc) along with the mechanicals and controllers.
Much easier is to get a PQ DQ500 from a 5N Tiguan or a T5/6 Transporter.
Still need custom software on the DQ500 but at least it speaks the same language as the rest of the car. ECU also needs to be modified to allow coding for 7 speed.

Not all Q3RS are MQB. The 1st gen shares many electronics with the Tiguan, like kessy, steering assist, abs/epb, steering module.
In my 1st gen tiguan i have lane assist with dataset from q3rs and same applies to steering characteristics.

My mistake I misread the title. 2014 is indeed PQ.

we got shafted here so lots of tiguans have autos or 6 speeds. i have been looking for a bit but they have been $$$

so being the 1st gen q3rs i should find it a little easier.

In Europe, from 2010 most of Tiguans are DSG 7spd (DQ500) but not for some markets, like Australia where the Gearbox is the Torque converter 09M from Aisin (AQ450). Mine 2009 is also AQ450. So probably Q3RS is the best option.

Mechanical the dq500 should fit, but 7spd vs 6spd dsg, would need some software adaption, i've heard.

There are still plenty of DQ500 Tiguans in Aus. Both TSI and TDI (which has a slightly longer 4th-7th gears).
I got a TSI for my car.
