Good evening,

We've just had a customers 2017 T6 come in that has had a new battery fitted and apparently since this new battery was fitted an error comes on the MFD - "Start Stop Error". I believe its because the battery wasn't coded in at the time of replacement. How do you do this with VCDS? Its currently showing an error in the 67 - Battery Regulator. I've been into this module and long adaption and found Battery info/replacement, I tried test & save because as far as I know they are both 70ah batteries. I've also gone into Coding - Long coding helper and copied the code into new code and saved it too. But still no joy.

There is also another error in the 01 Engine module - 25796 - BCM (Central Electrics) - No communications - Didn't know if this was linked.

On this battery management module:

Format: AAA BBB NNNNNNNNNN
AAA = Battery Size in Ah
BBB = Battery Vendor
NNNNNNNNNN = Battery Serial Number

Battery Vendor List:
5DO = Boading
TU3 = Exide
MLA = Moll
JCB = JCI
VA0 = Varta
UM5 = Akuma

If in doubt, just make sure the Battery Size is correct and change the serial number. The Vendor code doesn't really matter. Changing anything in that channel will tell the battery management that a new battery has been installed.

Adding to the above, please do code/adapt the new battery but I see this causing a problem:

02252 - Generator​
004 - No Signal/Communication​

If that returns I would look into the cause. I believe address 61 is coded correctly so there may be a wiring problem in-between 61 and the alternator.

@C_V If you end up finding broken wiring at that LIN splice please try to take a photo and upload it to a cloud/drive based service so the link can be shared. That will allow us to link it from a Wiki page which may save the next guy some time. I use Google Photos (since all of my Android based phones over the years have backup to that service) but this thread may be helpful:

I have lost count of the number of these we have done, and I still can't work out what it is there for but we also have found that when it breaks it can damage the battery monitoring unit, the body control module and the alternator. If after repairing the wire there are no repeat codes and the stop/start works then it should be OK.
