Coding tweaks for a VW Golf Mk7.5 GTi (2018), VW Golf Mk7.5 R 1.5 tsi and a Skoda OctaviaMk4 Estate 1.5 Tsi SE Tech (2020)

Hi All, I bought the VCDS HEX-USB=CAN Interface from Gendan Ltd back in 2014 and have mainly used it for servicing, fault finding and repair, but never really had the time to 'play' with it.
Now I'm in that age group that has a bit of time on there hands and I'd like to get to grips with what coding teaks I can do to my vehicles. I am also considering of upgrading to HEX 2 - is it presently worth doing considering the ongoing issues/challenges with coding on the MQB platform?

@Gromet: Hi. Welcome to the forum - I'm honored to be your first reply (and incidentally, I do like a bit of Gorgonzola)!!!

So- It would be helpful to add another post with more words about what specific "ongoing issues/challenges" you mean.

That said, I guess the answer to your question above greatly depends on which model car you are intending to inflict your coding tweaks (only kidding with the term "inflict"). MQB platform has been around since about 2013 - so it's a fairly mature series now.

Maybe also tell us more about your car - perhaps even consider posting-up an auto-scan report (so we can see its DNA)?

As I understand it your Octavia 4 (and depending on model year your Golf 7.5's) will not be fully compatible with your HEX-USB+CAN due to large changes to the diagnostic protocols made by VAG in vehicles from 2019 onwards, so you should consider an upgrade to a HEX-V2 - ask Gendan what upgrade options they offer.

In my experience owner websites are the best places for vehicle specific tweaks - for your Octavia 4 I recommend briskoda.net, but never having owned a VW I cannot make a recommendation for your 2 Golfs.
