Like your smartphone, your vehicle operates using software. From time to time, we offer software updates to improve the operation, performance and comfort of your vehicle, as well as occasionally provide new features.
In the past, you've had to bring your car into the dealership to get these updates. Starting later this year, you'll have the option to get many of these updates "over the air" from any location with strong cellular network coverage.
Over-the-Air Updates will be a two-step process; both steps need to finish before the update is complete. You will have the option to proceed or defer at each step:
STEP 1
DOWNLOAD
Once you click "Download" in your infotainment screen, the update will begin to download. You should drive your car as usual. If the download isn't complete when you turn off your car, it will pick up where it left off the next time you drive your car.
STEP 2
INSTALL
The first time you shut off your car after the download completes, you will see another notification in your infotainment screen. Click "Start" to begin. Do not drive your car until the installation is complete. This normally takes 10-30 min.
At this time, your 2020 Tiguan is not eligible for an update. As soon as it is eligible, we will notify you at each of the above steps via your infotainment screen.
