I just wanted to record my experience so others save themselves the money and time to go to a VW dealer to bail them out.

I followed a famous YouTube tutorial on how to add a new key fob to VW Jetta MK6 using VCDS. It was a year 2014, thus same generation as mine.

The first step says: Connect to module 09 and send byte 0 to channel 0.
I followed rigorously.

The next step he says: "Ok so the previous action deleted all your keys so now we can add them."

Wtf dude. Of course the step for adding keys didn't work. So i idiot-locked myself out of my car. Worst, it's actually my wife's car.

I tried every possible solution i could find online. I spent 4 hours researching and trying. But nothing worked. VCDS always crashed. I assume the module needs security access key or some certificate and VCDS cannot handle that and just crashes.

Story of the day. Never ever try to add a remote fob to VW MK6 Kessy or any later.

If you have an older model and decide to try it: First, try to research which exact related module you have installed. Get the VAG numbers for the modules and check your source deals with the same..

There are multiple immobiliser versions for ignition. And door locking can be dealt with by various modules.

I don"t think that you can add a remote to a 2014 vw with vcds. The remote is programmed at once with the starting chip from what i remember.
For older Vw s you can use vcds to add remotes and progrram a starting chip if you had the PIN of the vehicle to execute the immo access .

VCDS always crashed.
I'm not surprised you can't add remotes to a car with KESSY, but I am surprised that VCDS crashed. It really shouldn't do that. Please provide more details -- the exact blow-by-blow sequence that leads it to crash please.
