Hello , today found an interesting post on YT, one which might help a lot of struggling mechanics/vcds users with the newer generation 1.6 tdi cr engines (CAYC and maybe the other engine codes too ). I have ran into this problem and did not know how to fix it but I think this is the correct answer.
The procedure describes the injector minimum quantity deviation adaptation and will fix the rough idling engine ( after repair, replacement or other related injection problem).
Should be very careful with the procedure, from what I understand if not executed correctly, it will remain in a never ending loop /error.
All injectors must be fitted with a new o ring, nozzle washers and be tighten to spec and already coded in ecu .
First , the engine ecu should be in a state of standby ( remove key and wait 1 min). Then, start car and let idle.
You should sit in the drivers seat : Enter engine , security access ,27971 ,do it , basic settings ,IDE 06141 , go. If everything is correct, you will be asked to press the clutch and brake, release and then fully press the accelerator/throttle pedal to the floor and release it. If everthing correct so far , it will run through about five minutes of self revving through diverse rpms. If everything kosher , the procedure will end with the message Finished correctly and you should have a smooth idle/idle sound.
WARNING : DO NOT ENTER STRAIGHT IN BASIC SETTINGS AND ACTIVATE THIS FUNCTION, IT WILL TRIGGER THE INJECTOR RESET LOOP.

DISCLAIMER : I HAVE NOT USED THE PROCEDURE MYSELF YET ( I WISH I KNEW IT WHEN I NEEDED IT ) , BUT IT SEEMS TO BE DESCRIBED CORRECTLY. USE IT AT YOUR OWN RISK OR ON OTHER ENGINE CODES OTHER THAN THE ONE ON WHICH WAS USED. IF ANYONE HERE USED THIS ADAPTATION /PROCEDURE AND SOMETHING IS WRONG WITH IT, PLEASE CHIME IN , EITHER WAY, IT WILL HELP A LOT OF US.

Here's the videolink

Nice! Gonna move this to the How-To's and Tips section and include it in the Index post.

I guess one question that will come up is: What if the car has an automatic transmission and thus no clutch pedal?

The O-tool will ask you to only press the brake. It will give about 3000 rpm until the coolant is up to about 90 degrees. Then the procedure will start.

Well , let s hope that it doesnt have a dsg/automatic gearbox ..it is diesel , enough flaws ! :) Just kidding. Legit question though.

I would' ve guessed so ...but Uwe's logic question never entered my mind :)

I am just fighting a CAYC now, brought in dead and battery would not charge. New Varta 096 EFB and cranks over at 330rpm, runs on a sniff... no codes, then had lunch.

I am going to try this again or at least go and measure again. I think my car tried to commit suicide...had these issues all in a short period:
  1. Steering pump went
  2. injector died
  3. turbo hose split post turbo
  4. brake calliper (aftermarket) was too tight for pads to release after braking so accounts for the rough revs in fifth gear at low speed and low MPG as it was binding.
  5. Glow plugs too old, that's what my rough idle was at start up and not the injector coding
  6. Now the aircon has stopped working as I think it's degassed..great now we are in a heatwave.
I had an A4 1.9tdi PD130 that had less problems in 250K miles than this one. :banghead:

Do you know I find it quite hard to believe how well this car from another garage now works since it has current as stipulated my Mons Ampèr and Volts as by Sig Volta (i.e. a battery that is not FUBAR) plus fuel as specified by Rudolf and not Otto... FFS!
