Ok! So, I am having many issues with scan tools connecting and communicating which is very frustrating! Because this is happening. I can't measure any value blocks, reset address's or recode anything. My Snapon Solus Edge will allow me to read fault codes and that's about all. My vcds hex-net mobile will only ever get to 2% of an autoscan and no further it just stalls there. It also wont allow me to read measuring value blocks, reset address's or recode anything. It's being pain in the arse and I'm not overly great with technology. So I'm pretty much done with these scan tools at the moment!!!
I have 3 7L Touareg's 1x V6 1x V8 and the one that hates me but it's my favourite, My V10! I'm trying to bring this old girl back to her former glory but she is testing me to no end... I have been on and off this thing for nearly 12 months playing around with it. It's got more electrical communication issues now then when I first got it and all it does, is sit in storage until I start the next repairs. Batteries are always disconnected when sitting idle. I also bought brand new very heavy duty batteries when I first bought the vehicle. From the day I purchased this car, the kessy never worked. Nor did the drivers seat and steering column electronics. Parking sensors front and rear, rear number plate lights. Heaps more but they were the main ones that bothered me.
So the vehicle prior to my ownership has had a Nokia handsfree phone unit, uhf/cb radio, aftermarket android stereo system and towbar kit fitted. So this is all the little electrical add on's I'm trying to point out. Not sure if any of these are the causes of my headache? I have noticed the factory tv/gps unit module below the cd stacker in the rear has been removed also. Again I am not sure if this would play havoc on the electrics as well? I'm just in need of some help on what to do or some help how to work these stupid scan tools. Oh I nearly forgot. I have checked all the fuses and they appear to be good upon testing them.
Thanks in advance!

Have you tried using your HEX-NET with a desktop application, i.e. on a Windows PC?
Are you having the same problem when scanning all 3 vehicles or just the V10?
Have you tried your HEX-NET on a different VAG car model (friend's or neighbour's)?
Have you ever been able to use your HEX-NET as intended, without issues? If yes, do you have an Auto-Scan from that time?

Also, note it's turkey-time in the US:

Ok thanks, I'll retry on my other Vw vehicles as it was ages ago I tried it on them but I think it was doing the same thing. I was just gonna get my old laptop fixed and use purely for the Rosstech vcds but I'm still yet to get it fixed. It just frustrates me you buy a product to use on a particular item but it fails to do so. Anyway I'll try my luck again. Thanks

“Turkey-time…” - love it. :)

Adrian, if you can get a laptop working; and post an Auto-Scan from there, it will help no end to diagnosing what’s going on with the car or scan tool comms. Even if you could borrow one from someone else, with the licence being in the HEX-NET itself, you can use the Windows VCDS on as many laptops as you desire.

I appreciate you’re using VCDS-Mobile primarily.

Before you have a working laptop, please post the output of the VCDS-MOBILE attempts at an Auto-Scan, however small, as we’ll be able to see what CB version you have etc.

What happens if you try to go to individual module addresses? Like 03-ABS and 08-HVAC etc.?

Hi guys,

Adrian (@Fitzy's vdub collection) emailed us the scan results from VCDS-Mobile. Normally I would wait until we had explicit permission to post a scan sent via email however this one is so incomplete that it doesn't even contain a VIN:

If the OP wants me to remove it please click Report and we'll take it down.

Based on the scan I'm of the impression that the car has several issues but the lack-of 01 and 03 communication in addition to the fact that 05 is complaining about No Signal/Communication should be diagnosed and resolved first.

I like the idea of using a Windows based laptop via USB wire so we can compare the scan results from VCDS. If the vehicle starts and runs it couldn't hurt to scan it while running because it will be difficult to keep the system voltage up if you don't have a 30 Amp battery charger.

After we compare the VCDS scan to the Mobile one I think we'll be in a better position to make recommendations. On that note, if the VIN isn't in the VCDS scan please include it. The VIN will be extremely helpful if someone needs to dig into any wiring diagrams while assisting you.

Hey Dana, sorry I'm a novice when it comes to this. The vehicle is a 08/2004 V10 Touareg WVGZZZ7LIZ5D001855. I was trying to send that to myself so I could try work out my issues. As I don't know whether I should order new modules for my car or not. I fixed any wiring I found that didn't look the best. I pulled all the modules out, I could get to and split them open. Cleaned them all out with electrical cleaner, although I never seen any burnt resistors, diodes or mosfets anyway. Once I put it all back together the vehicle for the first time would actually communicate but now it wont run or drive anymore, at least before it would. It can't seem to talk to the engine ecu's or transmission computer also the instrument cluster isn't coming alive. I have given up at this point. The only thing I can think of doing now, Is replacing the J518 kessy, J519 power supply and J393 convenience modules.

Hi Adrian,

I would not order any modules yet. Chances are something simple (hopefully a single voltage drop) is responsible for the Engine, ABS and similar issues. I may need to pick this back up after our phones shut down but I'm pasting the VIN data here for now.

Vehicle Identification No. WVGZZZ7LZ5D001855
Model touareg TOUA
Date of production 29.05.2004
Year 2005
Sales type 7LAAH1
Engine Code AYH
Transmission Code HAQ

Ok thanks Dana. Just curious! As I said I'm a novice trying to do this stuff and its probably a stupid question but where do I find the 4 digit pin, SKC code and importer number code you guys talk about when trying to recode these modules? I have worked out the WSC. If you could picture me an example of where to locate these please? I believe I have worked out how to recode them I just need to know the pins and codes. Thanks

OK so I took as look at a wiring diagram and J329 (Terminal 15 voltage supply relay) directly powers a B273 (Positive connection (15), in main wiring harness) splice point prior to fuse SB51, which powers yet another splice point B277 (Positive connection 1 (15a), in main wiring harness) before it powers Terminal T16b/1 of the OBD2 connector.

All of that was obtained on page 1 of the Entry and start authorisation (Kessy) from January 2004 diagram (number 62)

If we search for B277 and/or fuse SB51 in all of the vehicle diagrams those guys make an appearance in several diagrams (Cluster power, ABS power, etc) so I woudl start there. If fuse SB51 is not powered make sure to trace that back because you may find a corroded wire under the carpet like this:

Wiring diagrams can be obtained using erWin and there are how to read current flow wiring diagram videos linked from the bottom of that page:

Please post the PC based VCDS scan at some point as well.

Thank you very much! I will see how I go with this now. Once again probably a stupid question but I'm not sure how to post a PC based scan? I'm using my iPhone. When I tried sending it off my iPhone the last time. That's how you ended up with it. Thanks again Dana!

If you don't have a windows laptop, try to borrow one. If you have a mac, you could also look into setting up a dual boot with bootcamp.

I missed this earlier:

PIN numbers are only needed when Immo components are replaced but those are extracted using Locksmith tools. More on that can be found here:

WCS, Importer and Equipment numbers are only really relevant when a control module with all zero values won't accept coding.

In regards to PC based VCDS and the Auto-Scan you may find the videos on these pages helpful (providing you can obtain a Windows laptop):

If the vehicle was completely functional there is no reason that VCDS-Mobile via WiFi shouldn't work but the fact that there appear to be wiring or power supply problems and the vehicle isn't entirely functional is why we are recommending VCDS and a USB wire. The results may be identical but ... just getting the WiFi layer out of the picture may change the results.
