I performed the “LED and blinker lights in opposite phase” coding on my ‘21 GLI Autobahn (via VCDS) but it only works when the lights switch is in the “Parking Lights” and not in the “Auto” position. Did I missed something in the coding or is this because NA regulations??

@GLI21PR: Hi.

I will let @Mari finish his analysis of your problem - but with his indulgence, I make a couple of observations from the data that you have provided:

1. Clearly since the changes apply to Leuchte3sl VRB21 & Leuchte2sl VLB10 - the car is fitted with LED style DRL assemblies. This normally means on MQB platform vehicles that the DRL fittings need 2 x separate Leuchte-sets per car side. The Leuchte-sets that you have modified are for the "Signal", but the (other) Leuchte-sets below provide the settings for the Power supply:​
Leuchte4TFL LB4 - Daytime running lights supply left​
Leuchte5 TFL RB32 - Daytime running lights supply right​
I'm not certain on your particular NAR car - but it is generally prudent when making changes to the functioning of the DRL lamps to set-up the power supply AS WELL AS make alterations to the "signal" Leuchte-sets​
2. I'm intrigued by how (or if) "DRL wink" coexists with the changes that you have made - this might explain why the tweak doesn't work with the LDS on some positions. Again, I'm not sure about your "Yankee" car - but I suspect that it was factory programmed with "DRL wink"; this is the function whereby the DRL lamp is turned-OFF on the car side of the blinker (only during daylight hours) - when the turn-signal is operated.​
At face value, there seems to be an inconsistency between the "DRL wink" function and your tweak because the former tells the lamp to switch off when the blinker is operated and the latter tells the lamp to counter-blink.​
Now, normally Leuchte-programming manages conflicts via positioning the command on a higher priority Lichtfunkion channel (which you have done by choosing Lichtfunktion G)- but in this case, the dichotomy is fundamental (meaning that it is binding and it can't be resolved). Hence your observation about the tweak only working on some LDS position - I think​

2. Yes, my “Yankee” car 🤣 from factory turned off the drl’s and only the blinkers worked when turning…at nighttime the drl’s remained on and the blinkers do their job.

With my new coding, drl’s are in phase with blinkers, however during daytime the lights switch must be in “parking lights” position, if switch is moved to “Auto” drl’s and blinkers work as from factory, as explained above…oddly enough at nighttime drl’s and blinkers are in phase with lights switch in “Auto” ( low beam on, of course).

@GLI21PR: OK - my word-play with "Yankee" was used tongue-in-cheek because I have never understood your country's road rules for vehicle lighting (it's entirely my deficiency). Down here in the Antipodes, we have the Australian Design Rules - which are also difficult to understand. But compared to your DoT equivalent- our ADRs read like a child's picture book (IMO- and no offense intended)

So, again pending @Mari response and with the continuing caveat of my lack of understanding of the factory-setting on your NAR vehicle - I suspect (guess really) that the binding matter to successfully implementing your tweak will be its contradiction with "DRL wink". The other interesting aspect of your tweak instructions is that they don't consider the distinction between left-side and right-side blinking (i.e. only the "Links" command is used)

Once again I'm guessing - but the easiest way to (kind-of) achieve your wants, is to try this (please read "Note" below first):
  1. Return ALL settings to their factory values
  2. Left car-side: Search each of the Lichtfunktion channels on Leuchte2sl VLB10 and Leuchte4TFL LB4 for the Leuchte-command Blinken links aktiv (beide Phasen) and change to Blinken Links Hellphase
  3. Right car-side: Search each of the Lichtfunktion channels on Leuchte3sl VRB21 and Leuchte5 TFL RB32 for the Leuchte-command Blinken rechts aktiv (beide Phasen) and change to Blinken Rechts Hellphase
Note: the instructions above accept that it's NOT possible to operate both "DRL wink" and "Pace Car Effect" functions on the same lamps (they are simply incompatible lighting functions). This being so, the "DRL wink" function is sacrificed in preference for counter-blinking DRL lamps. This means that after completion, "DRL wink" won't work

Finally, and apropos of my opening paragraph - I suggest that you consider whether counter blinking DRLs on a "Yankee" vehicle is compliant with your DoT rules.

Really? I'm surprised- your police might not be aware of the specifics of DoT - but Shirley it would be obvious to them from this tweak that something is different about the car to warrant their attention?

So, even accepting the lax practices of your plod - given the litigous nature of your culture - is there no risk of liability (in a practical sense) for the driver if an accident happens and an injured party claims that it was confusion caused by the "pace-car" effect that caused the accident? Or risk from an insurance company claiming that coverage is voided because of incompatibility with DoT?

Nope. They're not trained on the nuances of how the lights are supposed to work, nor do they see a 2021 Jetta GLI very often.

Thanks Uesque! This comes very handy for my next coding which is disabling the front 3 tiny amber colored lights or side markers. I may be wrong but I don’t see those on the front channel list. I’ve had success in coding stuff using Mk7, Mk7.5 and Golf R instructions, however, lights are a bit tricky. I was able to follow Mk7 coding instructions to disable the front side markers and succeeded, however it affected the rear parking lights (oddly enough) so I undid the coding. You wouldn’t happen to know the correct coding to delete the front amber side markers on my GLI, would you? Many thanks.
