Hi ,

I have recently acquired a mk5 2004 golf and it has airbag light on . I connected VCds-lite and tried an auto scan . But no option for a 1k . Manual scan will only pick up the engine . Not airbag module or any other module .
Does VCDS scan the 2004 golf or am I on a cusp year where the engine module is Kline and other modules on canbus ? Maybe I need to upgrade my vcds ?
Or , it should scan and I’m doing something wrong .

I also have a mk4 Gti and mk4 2.0 , both scan with the setup I have ( XP laptop , vcds-lite and yumcha cable .

any help appreciated

Jeff

In most early Mk.5 chassis cars, the engine (and auto trans, if equipped) would talk either via K-Line and CAN, but everything else required a direct CAN bus connection.

So no, you are not going to be able to access the airbag module in that car with VCDS-Lite. But no, you're not doing anything wrong either, except using the wrong tool for the job. ;)

Thanks for the quick reply Uwe .

I am not adverse to using a vice grip as a hammer .
Would the vcds - hexv2 - enthusiast be the requirement for reading canbus? If so , I guess it’s Time for an upgrade .

cheers,

jeff

Yes, the HEX-V2 (and the HEX-NET) are universal interfaces, supporting both dual K-Lines and CAN bus.
